ASSISTANT DIRECTOR OF NURSING
Summary of Responsibilities
Assists the Director of Nursing to plan, lead, organize and control the activities of licensed and non- licensed personnel providing health care and nursing services to the residents of River Bluff Nursing Home. Reports to the Director of Nursing. Reporting to this position are Unit Coordinators, Shift Supervisors, Registered Nurses, Licensed Practical Nurses, Nurse Assistants.
Illustrative Examples of Work
1. Establishes and implements the in-service educational program for nursing staff. Attends and participates in fire drills and other required meetings and activities.
2. Provides orientation and instruction to all professional and non-professional nursing personnel.
3. Assists the Rehab Coordinator and Restorative Coordinator in teaching rehabilitative methods and techniques.
4. Maintains all in-service records.
5. Compiles policy and procedure manuals for nursing personnel and interprets the same for all personnel.
6. Shares the responsibility for backing up the Nursing House Supervisor, Nursing Unit
Coordinators or Team Leader on a 24-hour per day, 7-day per week basis.
7. Shares with Director of Nursing the responsibility for selecting Nursing department staff, completing employee appraisals and resolving problems involving disciplinary action.
8. Assists the Director of Nursing with staffing and time keeping responsibilities.
9. In the absence of the Director of Nursing, the Assistant Director of Nursing performs the duties of the Director.
10. Assists the Director of Nursing in the design, implementation and evaluation of nursing systems that ensure consistent delivery of care and maintains and promotes resident rights.
11. Attends and participates in all necessary meetings and committees.
12. Performs all duties in accordance with County policies and procedures.
13. Performs other duties as required or assigned.
Education and Experience
- Certification of graduation from an accredited school of nursing with course work in restorative nursing and psychiatric or geriatric nursing.
- Current registration with the Illinois State Board of Nurse Examiners.
- Three years professional nursing experience, preferably in a skilled care nursing facility, with one year of administrative experience.
- Extensive knowledge of applicable Federal, State and local requirements for skilled nursing care facilities.
- Thorough knowledge of nursing theory and practice.
Abilities
- Ability to deal effectively with residents.
- Competent organizational, administrative and teaching skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain a working relationship with professional and non-professional personnel, residents and the public.
- Hepatitis B. - requires education and offer of immunization
