Summary
Install, maintain, and repair electrical wiring, equipment, and fixtures following blueprints and wiring diagrams for homes, businesses, and industrial plants under the supervision of a journeyman or master electrician. Ensure that work is in accordance with relevant codes. May install or service lights or electrical control systems.
Primary Responsibilities
- Learn and apply electrical theory and terminology through enrollment in our company apprenticeship program
- Learn, develop, and apply the practices, methods, tools, materials, and equipment of the Electrician’s trade
- Learn to read and draw simple electrical sketches
- Learn and adhere to the occupational hazards of the Electrician’s trade and necessary safety precautions
- Learn and develop skills regarding National Electrical Code (NEC)
- Learn and develop skills regarding local and state electrical codes.
- Assist a skilled Electrician by supplying materials, equipment, and tools at the job site
- Participate as a trainee in installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of wiring systems and other electrical fixtures and electric or electronic equipment
- Perform less difficult or routine installations and repairs of motors and generators, and make connections and terminations
- Participate in stringing wires and cables, and in installing conduit
- Install, replace, or adjust light bulbs, belts, or similar objects
- Draw, interpret, and read graphic instructions such as blueprints, schematic drawings, layouts, or other visual aids
- Perform heavy manual labor requiring manual dexterity under varying weather conditions
- Perform physical inventory of materials
- Observe, compare, or monitor data to determine compliance with prescribed operating or safety standards
- Demonstrate continuous effort to improve operations, decrease turnaround times, streamline work processes, and work cooperatively and jointly to provide quality seamless customer service
- Comply with company, customer, and OSHA safety requirements
- Work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others
- Participate in company safety/medical tests (e.g. background and drug screenings, physicals, hearing tests, etc.)
- Other duties as assigned
Job Specifications
- Be at least 18 years of age
- Possess basic reading, writing, arithmetic skills acquired through high school diploma or GED
- Possess basic PC skills including Microsoft Word and Excel
- Possess good communication skills, be able to understand, speak, read and write fluent English
- Able to follow written and oral instructions
- Able to work outside the traditional work schedule which includes nights, weekends, and/or holidays
- Able to travel to job locations that will require overnight stays
- Possess a valid driver’s license
- Able to take classes regarding electrical codes, safety programs, manufacture–specific training, management training, and others deemed necessary
- Able to use common hand tools, such as tape measure, hammers, saws, screwdrivers, or similar tools
- Able to perceive the full range of the color spectrum
- Able to perform precise arm-hand positioning movements and maintains static arm-hand position (e.g. operating an electric hand drill)
- Able to make continuous or repetitive hand-wrist movements (e.g. using a screwdriver)
- Able to make skillful, controlled manipulations of small objects (e.g. assembles, pegs, washers, collar units and inserts them into a small hole)
- Able to bend or stoop repeatedly or continually over time
- Able to lift arms above shoulder level (e.g. working on ceiling wiring system)
- Able to work in small cramped areas
- Able to climb or raise up to reach objects above eye level
- Able to work at heights greater than ten feet (e.g. working in a bucket truck or on a ladder)
- Able to move heavy objects (50 pounds or more) long distances (more than 20 feet)
- Able to push or pull cart loaded with equipment
- Able to work safely without presenting a direct threat to self or others
- Able to work cooperatively with others and possess a good teamwork mentality
- Able to meet deadlines
- Possess exemplary organizational skills
- Independent thinking and problem-solving abilities encouraged
NOTICE
Continuing employment will depend upon satisfactory progress and completion of a prescribed four-year apprenticeship training program, during which the progress of the apprentice is periodically evaluated. Employment may be terminated if the apprentice does not progress satisfactorily in either apprenticeship training or performance on the job.
