What are the responsibilities and job description for the Directional Drill Operator position at River City Construction, Inc.?
Position Purpose:
The Directional Drill Operator leads the crew to complete daily tasks related to the construction and maintenance of underground power lines, from plant/station to meter base, auxiliary facilities, and equipment for the distribution of electricity. This position works at various locations and may also be required to travel to another state depending on customer demands.
Essential Functions:
- Demonstrated extensive electrical distribution construction experience
- Horizontal Directional Drilling (HDD) experience is required
- Must have previous experience working from blueprints, and specifications
- Operates Directional Drill for installation of underground telecommunications cable conduit, including fiber optic cable
- Ensures safety of the public and other utilities underground facilities
- Reads utility locates and coordinating day lighting of these facilities
- Ensures all applicable permits and locates are complete and on site
- Supervises crew members
- Possesses working knowledge of leadership and management skills
- Must be capable of leading and training less skilled employees in safe and productive work procedures
- Conducts pre-job or tailgate briefings
- Maintains company vehicles, equipment, and tools in good working order
- Able to perform rigorous physical labor
- Capable of working at heights and/or confined spaces.
- Capable of properly installing and removing PPE and cover up.
- Must be able to climb different types of structures (wood, steel, etc.) and possess the necessary tools to do so
- Must understand how to safely operate equipment
- Capable of planning safe work based on a job print or work order
- Does all other related work as required to complete the job

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand, walk; use hands to fingers, handle, and feel; and reach with hands and arms.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions at construction job sites. The noise level in the work environment and job sites can be loud. This position is performed in outside weather conditions.

Required Qualifications:
- Minimum of 3 to 5 years of directional drill experience
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Valid Driver's License and acceptable driving record
- Able to read and communicate effectively in English
- Ability to travel and work for extended periods in various locations
- Able to lift more than 50 lbs.
- Willing to work over-time when requested
