What are the responsibilities and job description for the Underground General Foreman position at River City Construction, Inc.?
Purpose
The UG General Foreman will manage, and lead crews involved in the planning and execution of the installation, construction, maintenance, and repair of underground electric distribution and service lines, transformers, meters, metering equipment, electrical substations, and related equipment.
The General Foreman will ensure that crews work safely and are properly trained, submit accurate time records, complete and submit required forms and documentation, and the coordination of resources.
This position requires extensive knowledge of underground electrical distribution systems, management of multiple crews, distribution trouble shooting, management of storm crews, scheduling of crews, and coordinating resources.

Production
- Ability to read blueprints and interpret customer specifications
- Ability to read and interpret construction drawings, job prints, and comprehend scope of work.
- Assign crews to contracts so they can complete assigned tasks in a safe and efficient manner.
- Ensure crews are using proper cover-up of the work zone for the work
- Overseeing Assigned Field crew members in the construction, maintenance, or repair work of energized and de-energized underground electrical systems.
- Extensive knowledge and understanding how to perform switching procedures to isolate and insulate, splice and terminate underground power lines following proper safety procedures.
- Competent in the skills required to construct, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair energized and deenergized underground conductors.
- Ensure resources such as labor, material, and equipment during the planning and execution of contract schedule are being utilized correctly.
- Ensure Temporary Traffic Control Work Zones are set up and utilized efficiently.
- Can supervise building and replacing UG utilities to meet customer specifications

Supporting Functions
- Assist Foreman as needed.
- Maintain and submit Time Sheets for crew members.
- Coach and Mentor junior employees and assist in their continued professional and technical development.
- Ensure vehicles and equipment are driven and operated in a safe and efficient manner.
- Use a personal computer (PC) and or iPad to complete reports and access email.
- Prepares crew performance appraisals.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Storm Restoration
- Ability to travel and work during Storm Restoration efforts. This may require extended travel periods to various locations.
Physical Demands
Work involves moderate physical exertion, heavy lifting, exposure to inclement weather such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind, as well as the hazardous conditions of working with high-voltage energized lines and equipment. Must be able to bend and lift and carry up to 50 pounds. Clarity of vision at 20 feet or more or 20 inches or less, with the ability to judge distance and space relationships. Precise hand-eye coordination. Ability to identify and distinguish colors.
Work Environment
This position is performed in outside weather conditions and employee may be frequently exposed to inclement weather such as extreme heat, extreme cold, rain, ice, snow, and wind, as well as the hazardous conditions of working with energized high-voltage conductors and equipment. Employees may occasionally be exposed to loud noises.
Minimum Requirements
- Five to seven years as a Underground Foreman engaged in the installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of distribution electrical systems.
- High School diploma or equivalent
- Able to read and communicate effectively in English.
- Ability to travel and work for extended periods in various locations.
- Valid Driver's License.
- Background investigation and drug screen required.
