POSITION SUMMARY
The Garden Center Manager is an integral part of our Garden Center and our Sales Team. The Manager is responsible for achieving the sales goals within the Garden Center. This position is responsible for planning, directing, and overseeing staff, including the growth and development of all personnel. The Manager oversees the customer experience, care for plants as well as Garden Center upkeep. The Manager is responsible for all plant orders for the Garden Center as well as for the rest of RCL. We are looking for a Manager who enjoys working with people, plants, and the great outdoors. This can be a very physical, hands-on position and requires weekday and weekend hours. This is a full time, salaried position.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES & SKILLS
- Excellent leadership skills
- Assist with human resource management of Garden Center staff: hiring, firing, training, coaching, mentoring and developing staff to reach potential
- Responsible for enforcing company policy, approving vacation requests, disciplinary actions, performance reviews, raises & demotions of all direct reports; prior approval necessary for major changes
- Management and scheduling of Garden Center staff
- Assist with overall sales and marketing initiatives for Garden Center
- Greet visitors and customers
- Provide customer service
- Develop repeat and/or referral business from customers
- Ordering of plants for Garden Center and for other departments
- Familiarization with and implementation of Point of Sale system for scheduling, inventory, and sales
- Manage care of all plant material
- Work with Landscape Team to maintain inventory levels, pull plants that are sold for jobs and manage workflow, suggest substitutions when necessary
- Oversee Garden Center grounds upkeep and maintenance
- Proficient in or able to learn customer relationship management (CRM) software
- Effective problem solving skills
- Ability to handle adversity

EDUCATION & REQUIREMENTS
- 2-5 years Garden Center experience, required
- 1-3 years management experience
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Conduct himself or herself in a professional manner
- Posses a valid driver’s license and must be insurable on company’s insurance policy
WORKING CONDITIONS & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- Must maintain regular and reliable attendance at a level acceptable to the company, including the ability to work holidays, evenings or weekends as necessary
- Exposed to exterior elements (i.e. pollen, chemicals, cold and heat, etc.)
- Requires extended periods of walking, standing, kneeling, bending and lifting
- Typical work week requires 40 hours in green season, including weekends; up to 30 hours in snow season
COMPENSATION & BENEFITS
- Salary of $45k-$50k based on experience
