Job Summary
The Executive Director is a pivotal leadership role responsible for the overall strategic direction and operational management of the organization. This position requires a dynamic individual with a strong background in business development and senior leadership to drive growth, raise funding, enhance organizational effectiveness, and ensure the successful execution of our mission. The Executive Director will work closely with the board of directors, staff, and stakeholders to foster a culture of excellence and accountability.
Governance – 10%
· Handle administrative responsibilities for the Board of Directors and its committees
· Recommend standard museum policies to the board and implement those that are approved
· Serve as the liaison between the Board and the staff
· Ensure that the Center remains relevant and is forward thinking
Facilities/Exhibits/Programming – 20%
· Directs the day-to-day operations of the Center through staff
· Provide oversight of programs, staff activities and procedures
· Oversee the maintenance of the facility and the exhibits
· Recommend long and short term capital improvements/repairs
· Oversee buying and inventory for gift shop
Finance – 25%
· Develop, present and monitor, in collaboration with the board treasurer, the annual budget
· Maintain adequate fiscal controls to assure that costs are within budgetary limitations
· Using Quickbooks, handle day to day deposits and invoicing
· Oversee front desk/admissions in POS system
· Make purchases necessary for operations
Development/Fundraising – 40%
· Cultivate and steward both current and potential major donors, corporate contributors, and members
· Manage and oversee development initiatives including museum memberships and events
· Represent the organization in external affairs in a manner consistent with its stature as a leading cultural institution in Paducah
· Promote organization visibility through participation and membership in related organizations and associations
Personnel - 5%
· Develop and oversee sound human resources procedures
· Recruit, interview, hire, and supervise personnel
Skills
· Successful fundraising track record
· Knowledge and principles and practices of a museum or non-profit including staff management, financial administration, and planning, etc.
· Knowledge or familiarity with exhibit design and educational program planning
· Excellent public speaking and written communication skills
· Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with all museum constituencies and other related organizations which can help to promote, strengthen and further the museum’s mission
· Ability to formulate policy and develop strategies
· Ability to work with a board of directors
· Ability to interact with officials at all levels of government
Knowledge of the river industry
· Strong computer skills in Microsoft Word, Quick Books, PowerPoint and Excel
