What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Promotions and Communications position at River District Association?
Essential Functions:
- Create, monitor, and manage all organizational communications and content including but not limited to: website development and management, social media content creation, management and engagement, newsletters, ribbon cutting events, special publications such as business guides and annual reports, merchant and district promotions, press releases, newspaper and magazine articles and ads, video creation, and other social media engagement, relationships and strategies for the River District and other business districts within the purview of RDA
- Develop and implement strategies to promote businesses, services, attractions, and history
- Maintain updated contact lists and business information
- Responsible for all email communications including press releases, e-newsletters, and other outreach both internally and externally
- Be familiar with utilizing Graphic Arts and Design programs, and have experience creating various types of marketing materials and publications both print and electronic
- Assist in recruiting, coordinating, and tracking events and volunteers
- Schedule, plan, promote and implement special events, campaigns, and programs
- Manage and promote Business Promotion activities and create new programs around retention efforts, including Merchant and Promotions work groups and committees
- Provide some assistance to the CEO in Fund Raising & Fund Sustainability efforts
- Manage, monitor, and maintain brand integrity and standards both internally and externally
The CEO will hire a Director of Promotions and Communications who possesses the following qualifications and competencies:
- Professional knowledge and experience successfully utilizing social media platforms, ie. Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn
- Exceptional communication skills in writing, speaking, and face-to-face interactions
- Technological skill -- hardware and software programs including graphic design experience, website development and management, e-news and communications platforms. Video creation/editing skills a plus.
- Ability to adapt to organizational, program, schedule, and office changes
- Exemplary organization, problem-solving, and attention-management skills; a self-starter with ability prioritize and function without direct supervision post-training
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work well with a variety of individuals (i.e. diplomatic communication ability, cultural competence, customer/client focus)
- Ability to manage teams of volunteers and work groups
- Event and Promotions planning experience
- Passion, Dedication, & Drive to continue moving our community forward
Work Environment
While performing the duties of this job, the employee works primarily in a traditional office setting. Employee will also work outside of the office in merchant and partner locations, at special events, and other functions which may include being outside in varied weather conditions.
Physical Demands
The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. In this position, the employee is required to have close visual acuity to perform activities such as typing and viewing a computer terminal. The employee will occasionally need to lift equipment and office supplies up to 40 pounds. The employee is frequently required to sit, stand, talk, and hear and lift up to 20 lbs.
Expected Hours of Work
In general, the normal workday both in office and remotely is 8 AM to 5 PM Monday through Friday; lunch is one hour per day. Duties of this position will require the incumbent to be available beyond the traditional work hours and have flexible work schedule availability. Under certain circumstances, a limited amount of remote work can be accommodated, but the incumbent is expected to be available for work in office and at various meeting locations as described.
