What are the responsibilities and job description for the Middle School Librarian position at River Oaks Baptist School?
River Oaks Baptist School is seeking a dynamic, innovative, and experienced certified librarian to join our team beginning August 2025.
The person in this position will contribute to the library's core mission of creating a vibrant school reading culture, with a primary focus on teaching and special programs. The successful candidate will have extensive library teaching experience, a track record of collaborating effectively with teachers, and a student-centered approach. S / he must have an in-depth knowledge of current children's literature; an ability to curate a diverse, current, and relevant literature collection; and an awareness of trends in school librarianship and current educational research.
Also essential are a love of children and a forward-thinking mindset. This position will teach students in grades 4 - 8 and will be part of a team of three certified librarians serving 930 students from age three to eighth grade. This position reports to the Head of Middle School.
All faculty including our librarians are supported by an experienced divisional team devoted to developing both students and faculty. The team will include instructional coaches, learning specialists, a counselor, a Dean of Students, an Assistant Division Head, a Division Head, and the Associate Head of School for Academics.

Programming and Curricular Responsibilities? :
- Plan and conduct weekly library instruction for students in several grade levels
- Serve as primary library contact for students, teachers, and parents in those grade levels
- Collaborate with the other library staff to maintain all areas of the library collection
- Support ongoing curriculum development for ROBS students
- Collaborate with teachers to implement an Information Literacy & Research curriculum using the AASL Standards Framework for Learners
- Manage the library spaces with the library team
- Assist students, faculty, staff, and parents in the use of library resources
- Collaborate with faculty, instructional coach, division head, and others to meet curricular goals
- Select, catalog, and circulate library materials using Follett Destiny
- Train and supervise library volunteers
- Plan and present library programs and special events, including Reading Festival, Summer Reading Sale, Visiting Authors, etc.?
- Implement and conduct reading programming, such as the Bluebonnet Reading Program and Raider Readers Reading Program
- Participate in professional organizations including TLA and HAISLN
