What are the responsibilities and job description for the Substitute School Nurse position at River Oaks Baptist School?
River Oaks Baptist School is actively searching for substitute nurses for the 2023-24 school year.
This position will provide nursing health and emergency care to students and staff and serve as a resource for health concerns in the school setting. Duties include performing daily care for students, staff, and faculty as necessary, first aid, and medication distribution.
A successful candidate will be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing, possess a license to practice professional nursing (R.N. preferred) in the State of Texas, and have a minimum of two years’ nursing experience (school nursing preferred). Certification in CPR and experience with Type 1 (juvenile insulin dependent) diabetes is required. The candidate will demonstrate professional acumen, strong interpersonal skills, and respect for the confidentiality and dignity of students, faculty, and staff.
This position is supported by a fellow school nurse and the Associate Head of School for Student Support, who is also a trained nurse. Responsibilities
- Staff the clinic during regular school hours (7:45 a.m. – 3:45 p.m.)
- Provide nursing care for students who become ill or injured during the school day
- Dispense medications to students as needed
- Maintain appropriate medical forms and records as related to students
- Advise and treat faculty and staff on a limited basis, as needed
- Communicate with parents about students’ medical issues
Position Qualifications
- Basic computer literacy
- A vibrant Christian faith and a desire to work in a Christian environment
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
- Valid license to practice professional nursing (R.N.) in the State of Texas
- Professional experience in nursing. Experience in school nursing, emergency/ICU nursing, pediatric nursing or community health is preferable
- Experience with Type 1 (juvenile insulin dependent) diabetes
- Current CPR certification
