Position Description:
Essential Functions and Responsibilities of This Position Include:
- Conduct vegetation and wildlife surveys at project sites in the Southern San Joaquin Valley, including but not limited to completing plant survivorship surveys, deploying camera traps and acoustic recording units, and performing pollinator transects.
- Monitor and report on restoration projects and compliance work, including data entry, quality control and analysis of spatial and quantitative data for vegetation, soils, water quality, hydrology, species of special concern and others.
- Complete site-specific restoration plans, permits, and project progress reports.
- Assist in translating the site-specific design across the project area for implementation.
- Develop and deliver presentations to the scientific community and the public, also attends public events and educational activities to promote the organization and its mission.
- Develop and maintain good relations with agency personnel, contractors, research scientists and neighbors.
- Flexible to work occasional long hours and/or weekends in a variety of field conditions.
- Travel to multiple restoration projects for planning and monitoring, which may include River Partners’ other branches.
- Perform other assignments from time to time as requested to achieve departmental and organizational goals (for example, assisting in interdepartmental trainings, supporting media outreach).
Essential Knowledge Skills and Abilities:
- Demonstrate cooperative behaviors with colleagues, supervisors, and managers at all times working effectively with people in all areas of company.
- Strong analytical ability to assess complex situations and apply problem solving strategies.
- Excellent communication; written, oral and group facilitation in sharing biological findings.
- Intermediate knowledge of California plants, riparian ecology, hydrology, soils and/or wildlife.
- Work well under pressure in order to meet multiple, and sometimes, competing deadlines.
- Intermediate skills in collecting, organizing, and analyzing field data, including spatial data and maps.
- Integrity and ethics beyond reproach.
- Commitment and enthusiasm to carry out River Partners mission.
Qualifications:
- BS in biology, ecology, environmental science, or related science.
- Two or more years of experience in natural resource management or restoration.
- Valid California driver’s license with no restrictions.
- Bilingual in Spanish preferred but not required.
- General understanding and experience in GPS/GIS applications required.
- Experience managing grants desirable.
