Job Overview
River Source seeks a Watershed Programs Manager to work in Santa Fe, assisting with field trips in Northern New Mexico, and conducting scientific ecological monitoring and restoration for the health of communities, forests and rivers in New Mexico. River Source works with public, tribal and private schools and recruits and hires youth interns for work-learn experiences. Our partners include the City of Santa Fe, private landowners, local and national non-profit organizations, and the US Forest Service.
We are seeking a highly organized and detail-oriented Program Manager to oversee and coordinate various projects within our organization. The ideal candidate will possess strong leadership skills and a deep understanding of program development methodologies. This role requires effective communication, strategic planning, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
Responsibilities
- Supervise project teams, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and objectives.
- Gather requirements from stakeholders to define project scope and deliverables.
- Present project updates and progress reports to senior management and stakeholders.
- Educating youth and adults in environmental monitoring, ecological design, and community organizing
- Employ program management techniques to assess project performance against established metrics.
- Lead program development initiatives, ensuring successful execution from inception through completion.
Requirements
- Experience in program management or related field, with a strong emphasis on leading teams.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to present complex information clearly.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to managing challenges.
- Willingness to take on and complete tasks as needed. Our team is small, so we need the ability to complete a diversity of tasks required to run a small business with environmental/social enterprise in partnership with a non-profit fiscal sponsor (Partners in Education Foundation).
- Education option 1: Bachelors degree with experience (as a valued participant in programs such as outdoor education, youth conservation crews, ranching, farming, for example)
- Education option 2: Masters Degree (in outdoor enterprises such as environmental education, ecological restoration or monitoring, biology, engineering, social entrepreneurship in the natural resources field, for example) .
- Qualities in being a team player and being a self-starter are essential.
- This position also requires the person to complete other duties as needed.
Successful candidates will enjoy teaching in outdoor settings, have good writing and time management skills, and be adaptable to changing circumstances with partners and outdoor work. Having experience in outdoor education, mapping software such as ArcGIS, Wordpress, and/or video editing is a significant plus for desired candidates.
Some but not all of the work will likely be based in the office at 817 Calle Saragosa, Santa Fe, New Mexico. Applicants need to have a clean driver's license record and a working vehicle for driving to school/field/watershed restoration sites located mostly in northern New Mexico.
Compensation & Schedule
$38.50 per hour as a contractor depending on experience with the opportunity for an increase based on performance. Use of a personal vehicle is eligible to get reimbursed on mileage basis with up to $0.67/mile. After 120 days of good work, team members who are committed to continue working at River Source are eligible for $500 per year flexible spending benefit.
The schedule requires flexibility. The workload will range from 32-40 hours per week in the summer. For the fall/winter/spring, the hours can range from 16-32 hours per week with occasional breaks when field work is done, we limit the workdays to a few days a week and we focus on completing data analysis, outreach communications and planning and reports that can be done in part remotely.
