Job Summary:
Administrative duties of the Medical Assistant include answering telephones, greeting patients, updating and uploading patients' information into the current EMR, completing prior authorization insurance forms for medication and other ordered services, handling correspondence, scheduling appointments, arranging for referrals and laboratory services, and collecting patient payments. Clinical duties of the Medical Assistant include obtaining patient medical history, obtaining and recording vital signs, pregnancy tests, EKG’s and collecting urine specimens. This position assists in covering all clinics that provide prescriber services and does include travel.
Essential Functions:
- Clinical Duties and Patient Care:
a. Ensures a customer-centric environment by treating clients with friendliness and respect.
b. Obtains vital signs and communicates information to Prescribers (duty as a clinical team member).
c. Aids the nurse with messages, client communications, and other tasks that can be safely assigned.
d. Tasked with gathering and documenting patient medical histories, including medications, allergies, consents, completed questionnaires, and information requested by providers from patients or other healthcare services.
e. performs UDS, HCG testing, EKGs, in addition to other tasks assigned and requested by medical providers.
f. liaises with lab services, insurance companies, pharmacies, and other healthcare resources to ensure accurate information for ongoing care.
- General Office duties and functions:
a. Ensure medical records are scanned into the EMR before appointments, as necessary.
b. Forward documentation, such as consents and referrals, to medical records for uploading into the EMR or scan and upload directly when needed.
c. Assist front desk staff with answering phones.
d. Check clients in and out.
e. Schedule and reschedule client appointments.
f. Complete assessments with clients who consent for state and federal programs.
g. Complete insurance verifications and correct errors on the monthly billing report and state reporting report.
3. Staff Development:
a. Stay up to date with annual training and related requirements.
b. Participate in skill enhancement activities.
c. Provide coverage to all outpatient clinics as needed.
d. foster collaborative relationships among leadership, management teams, and programs.
e. Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education and Experience:
- High School diploma or GED
- Graduate of Medical Assistant program preferred
OR
- Certified Nursing Assistant with Current Certification
- Proficiency in measuring and recording vital signs/weights required.
- State Certification/Registration, BLS, and medical office experience preferred.
Knowledge and Skills:
- Good knowledge of general office PRACTIcE AND BUSINESS English.
- Ability to deal effectively with the public.
- Demonstrates a positive outlook and a respectful manner towards clients, staff, co-workers, and visitors.
Salary : $17 - $19
