Position: POINT OF SALE SPECIALIST
Requires open availability, including evenings and weekends.
Status: Reports to Category Assistant Manager
Pay Level: III, non-exempt
Purpose: Three aspects of the job are key: data accuracy; synchronicity between shelf tags and sale signs and Point-of-Sale system; both sales floor and back-end auditing. Also, there is a key communication role with the Customer Service department and Receiving, with the overall support of those teams, including covering shifts as needed.
Desired Qualities: The Point-of-Sale Specialist is a systems maven. They are organized and thrive on a routine while being able to cheerfully turn on a dime in the ever-evolving world of grocery retail. They are both familiar and proficient with computers in general, and Microsoft Office and Google applications specifically.
Responsibilities
- Enter new products, as needed/requested by Category Management and Department Management.
- Inactivate discontinued products and update item changes promptly and accurately in the database for the Point-of-Sale (POS) system, from information received both from electronic vendor catalogs and Category Management, Department Coordinators, Receivers, and Managers.
- Monitor and implement promotional pricing worksheets.
- Execute and audit sales worksheets for both on and off-sale items.
- Update store-based scan data and audit for accuracy
- Audit, organize, distribute, and place National Co op Grocers (NCG) sales, in-house promotion, and core sets signs.
- Maintain promotional signage/shelf tags for New, Co-op Basics, and Local products.
- Order and maintain a supply of materials & forms relating to shelf management.
- Create and maintain product shelf tags, and generate shelf tags for new products and price changes. Take the lead on timely tag placement for all Departments.
- Audit and maintain the accuracy of shelf tags throughout the store on a daily and continual basis.
- Support daily audits of products created, managers specials/flash sales added by Department Managers and Coordinators/Manager on Duty (MOD).
- Maintain a system for and report on scan/price discrepancies to achieve a zero error scan file.
- Execute cost/price change worksheets in the Point-of-Sale system before the store opening, including updating shelf tags.
- Maintain, monitor, and update price and cost data for all departments, for both the Point-of-Sale system and the scales.
- Maintain training materials and documentation for all users of the back-end Point-of-Sale system.
- Train staff on the use of relevant software, hardware, and devices as directed by the Category Manager and Store Manager.
- Troubleshoot equipment breakdowns, and coordinate with the IT Manager for repairs are needed.
- Assist and support Customer Service staff with data, information, queries, and training as needed.
- Generate reports, and queries, and prepare data as requested by Category Management and Department Managers to maintain accurate data and pricing.
- Participate in periodic inventory as needed.
- Meet with Category Management, Receivers, Scanning Clerk, Department Managers, and Coordinators as requested.
- Support Category Team Data Maintenance, including time-sensitive issues, such as deliverables to marketing, vendor catalog uploads, and creation of sales batches.
OTHER DUTIES
- Attend department meetings and storewide meetings.
- Perform other tasks assigned by the Category Management team.
Qualifications
- Organized; high attention to detail required.
- Ability to work up to 40 hours per week and adjust the schedule as needed to accommodate meetings, events, or special promotions
- Computer literacy; ability to adapt to a new computer and electronic software, hardware, and devices.
- Ability to lift 50 lbs.
- Manual dexterity with department equipment.
- Ability to stand for long periods.
- Communication skills able to listen well, give clear instructions, and unbiased feedback.
- High confidentiality regarding pricing strategy, cost data, and vendor management
- Ability to perform simple arithmetic.
- Ability to work independently and handle multiple demands.
- Familiarity with natural foods.
- Regular, predictable attendance.
