River Valley Eye Professionals is currently seeking an individual for a full-time (32 to 40 Hours) or part-time (16 to 24 Hours) retail position with our wonderful optical team. Experience working in eye care or a retail optical setting is preferred, but we will fully train the right candidate!
Tentative Schedule: Full time - 32 hours per week (benefit eligible) . Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.
This position is best suited to someone who is personable, reliable, energetic and detail oriented. An ability to multi-task, work with people of all ages, and work well with a team is also essential.
River Valley Eye Professionals has been serving Northfield and the surrounding communities since the 1920s.
Key Job Responsibilities:
- Selling, fitting and dispensing of eyewear to patients and customers
- Deliver an exceptional purchasing experience for all customers and patients
- Examine written prescriptions to determine necessary specifications of lenses and frames
- Recommend appropriate frames for style and prescription
- Accurately complete order forms and send to supplier or laboratory for processing
- Adjust and modify eyeglass frames to appropriate fit
- Problem solve patient issues or concerns with eyewear performance
- Collect payments and prepare daily deposits
- Order and maintain optical inventory
- Maintain clean and professional looking office areas
Competencies:
Sales Skills
The Optician is expected to possess a high degree of influential sales skills. The ability to effectively communicate the benefits of all optical products is required.
Customer Orientation
Providing our patients exceptional service is a cornerstone of our brand. The Optician’s role in delivering on our brand is integral.
Communication Skills
The Optician must be able to effectively communicate with our patients around all our optical products including frames, lenses, etc. Communicating in a manner by which the patient understands technical terminology in their layman language is essential.
Technical Abilities
The Optician must be able to accurately measure and record all patient information. Attention to detail relative to prescriptions, PDs, and checking the accuracy of eyewear received from the lab, etc. is imperative.
Pace of the Environment
Must be able to work at a fast pace. Effectively handling multiple tasks and patients at one time, while focusing on the individual patient experience.
Frequent Interaction with Others
Must demonstrate the ability to manage multiple tasks at one time, always maintaining friendly interactions with team members, patients and guests of the practice.
Required Qualifications:
High school diploma, or equivalent
Computer skills, including Microsoft Office and general computer knowledge
Minimum two years of previous customer service experience
Physical Requirements:
This job operates in a professional office environment and routinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers and filing cabinets
This is largely a sedentary role, requiring long periods of sitting. However, occasional movement around the clinic and office is required
Must be able to lift up to 20 pounds
