What are the responsibilities and job description for the Triage Specialist position at River Valley Family Health Center?
River Valley Family Health Centers is looking for an experienced Triage Specialist to join our clinics in Montrose or Delta Counties.
The Triage Specialist position is a full-time position; 40 hours per week. We are a growing, exciting place to work, serving our community in a variety of ways. Come join our team!
A day in the life of the Triage Specialist includes:
- Monitoring and responding to triage calls in the call center, and:
- Evaluating and assessing patient’s health care needs based on patient’s signs and symptoms.
- Collaborating with the provider as needed, to determine the best clinical course of action and recommendations for specific patient health care needs.
- Directing the patient to the emergency room or urgent care, or providing home care advice; may schedule patients to their provider, or refer them to the Refill or Referral Specialist.
- Accurately documenting symptoms/complaints, assessment, advice provided, and the patient/caller response.
- Follows policies, procedures, and protocols to ensure consistency and effectiveness as well as improve health care outcomes of patients/callers and their access to appropriate health care advice. Will utilize triage protocols appropriately.

- $22.00 - $25.00 per hour, depending on experience and certifications

Qualifications
- Must be a Certified Medical Assistant or have current EMT Certification, or LPN, RN License
- Currently CPR certified
- Minimum of 2 years’ experience in direct patient care. Preferably in a clinical care setting or ambulatory care setting.
- Triage experience of at least 1 year required
- Knowledge of safety and clinical standards.
- Ability to travel between clinics as needed.
- Ability to handle stressful emergency situations calmly and effectively.
- Ability to maintain positive working relationships with team members, patients, families, and others.
- Ability to utilize a computer for time keeping, documenting electronic medical records, and to complete follow-up tasks.
- A caring, kind, and professional bedside manner.
- Ability to maintain confidentiality.
- Bilingual candidates are preferred.
This position requires long periods of standing and walking, sitting at a computer, the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 35 pounds, etc. Employees are exposed to blood, body fluids, and other occupational hazards, and are required to complete mandatory vaccines, such as Tdap, Hep A, Hep B, MMR, Varicella, and the yearly flu vaccine.
