Sales Representative

River Valley & Cavallaro Foods, a growing specialty foods and consumable products distributor in Syracuse, NY, is searching for a full time, Sales Representative to join our sales team and service customer base in Danbury CT.

River Valley Holdings is a family-owned distribution company based in Syracuse, NY, serving retail customers across the northeastern United States. The River Valley family of companies: River Valley Foods, Cavallaro Foods and Garden Spot Foods, distributes a wide range of specialty dry and frozen grocery items and consumable products out of warehouses in Syracuse, NY and New Holland, PA.

General Description/Purpose:

This role is integral to driving business growth and supports our commitment to building lasting and productive customer relationships through our full-service program. The successful candidate demonstrates exceptional sales and customer service skills, the ability to establish and build relationships, and the business acumen to meet customer needs through active listening and open, effective communication.

Job Responsibilities:

• Meet with customers in each market location to determine needs and opportunities.
• Consistently deliver exceptional customer service and build productive customer relationships.
• Use active listening, product knowledge and selling techniques to build customer orders and develop sales growth opportunities including the presentation of new items and pricing programs.
• Order product to maintain inventory levels.
• Stock product, arrange product on shelves, and rotate product to ensure freshness.
• Build displays, implement planograms, and reset sections to add items or optimize shelf placement.
• Maintain displays including pricing, presentation, and cleaning and dusting of product and shelving.
• Maintain and submit travel, work activity, customer sales and service, and all other records, reports and communication as required.
• Perform additional job duties as required.

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Must be at least 18 years old and have a High School diploma or equivalent
• At least one year of experience in a sales based customer service role; grocery experience preferred
• Must have a valid state issued driver’s license and reliable personal transportation
• Daily travel required, must be available for occasional, position dependent overnight travel
• Available to work weekends and/or a variable schedule as required
• Able to routinely lift up to 30 pounds
• Able to stand, walk, lift and bend to service lower shelves for extended periods of time
• Ability to effectively communicate, implement sales techniques, and present information
• Strong organizational skills and a fundamental understanding of sales processes
• Ability to adapt and demonstrate flexibility in managing numerous, competing priorities
• Proven critical thinking skills and a proactive approach to problem solving
• Strong computer skills – Email/Outlook, Electronic Ordering/PDA, Word, Excel

Wages:

• $45,000 - $65,000 per year
