River Valley Holdings is a family-owned distribution company based in Syracuse, NY, serving retail customers across the northeastern United States. The River Valley family of companies: River Valley Foods, Cavallaro Foods and Garden Spot Foods, distributes a wide range of specialty dry and frozen grocery items and consumable products out of warehouses in Syracuse, NY and New Holland, PA.
Job Summary:
The Senior Accountant is responsible for preparing and analyzing financial reports to track the organization’s assets, liabilities, profit and loss, tax liabilities, and other related financial activities.
Wages:
$80,000 - $95,000 per year
Schedule:
Monday – Friday, On-Site, 8am – 4:30pm
Duties/Responsibilities:
Prepare and analyze financial statements, ensuring compliance with GAAP and company policies.
Assist with month-end and year-end close processes, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
Monitor financial data to provide insights for decision-making and planning.
Manage inventory valuation, cost accounting, and related financial reporting.
Ensure accuracy of freight variance reporting and vendor reconciliations.
Assist in budgeting, forecasting, and financial analysis.
Collaborate with internal departments to improve financial processes and controls.
Support external audits with necessary documentation and financial statements.
Maintain the general ledger and perform account reconciliations.
Process and verify payments, ensuring proper coding and accuracy.
Provide backup support for Accounts Payable as needed.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Required Skills/Abilities:
Strong knowledge of general and cost accounting principles.
Proficiency with accounting software and Microsoft Excel (pivot tables, financial modeling).
Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal abilities.
Education and Experience:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
3-5 years of accounting experience required.
Experience with GAAP, financial reporting, and tax regulations.
Familiarity with ERP systems (e.g., QuickBooks, SAP).
Experience with inventory valuation and cost accounting.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Must be able to lift up to 15 pounds at times.
