Reports to: Laboratory Manager
Job Summary:
The Lab Tech [LPN, CMA/RMA, or Phlebotomist] works as part of the clinic team and assists the medical practitioners in the provision of primary health care. The Lab Tech provides patient services and performs specific procedures as ordered by the practitioners.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Perform technical laboratory functions for CLIA waived labs including lipids, urinalysis, hemoglobin A1C, prothrombin time, etc. Performs phlebotomy and other specimen collections per industry standards for all lab services. Prepares send out orders and notifies courier of pick-up.
- Reports test results following clinical protocols, drawing special alerts to practitioners’ attention.
- Ensures quality control in lab operations. Performs appropriate standards controls and maintains records of lab activities.
- Maintains equipment and orders supplies to ensure uninterrupted laboratory services.
- Enters or scans laboratory reports into patient’s electronic medical record.
- Notifies patient of lab results and changes in management per instructions of practitioners
- Orders supplies and medications for use in clinical settings
Required Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Knowledge of basic laboratory functions, test, regulations, and practical nursing practices to assist practitioners in patient care.
- Rudimentary knowledge of laboratory equipment and computers. Knowledge of medical office equipment and instruments to assist practitioners.
- Knowledge of universal precautions and common safety procedures to assist in establishing and maintaining a safe work environment.
- Ability to handles protected health information (PHI) in a manner consistent with the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA).
- Ability to assist or use medical office and lab equipment, including computers, copiers, and fax.
- Appropriate interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and professionally with patients, practitioners, and peers.
Education and Experience:
- Minimum: High School Graduate or equivalent with successful completion of an approved LPN or CMA/RMA program.
- Lab training preferred or equivalent experience.
- Current state LPN or CMA/RMA license.
- Must be qualified in Basic Life Support techniques.
- Two or more years of lab or nursing experience in direct patient care environment preferred.
- Previous experience in a primary-care medical office performing lab tests.

Pay: $15.00 - $25.00 per hour
Expected hours: No more than 40 per week
