Job Summary:
River Valley Resources seeks Adult Education ELL Instructors for 12-29 hours per week to provide Adult Education program services to non-english proficient students. Instructors do not need to know another language for this role. Training is provided.
Duties/Responsibilities: The Instructor will assist in the implementation of the regional Adult Education Plan by providing instruction and career planning services to adults enrolled in the Adult Education program. The Instructor works with adult students individually and in groups to meet the needs of the adult students in reaching their academic goals. The Instructor provides comprehensive evaluation and an instructional program in compliance with federal, state, and local directives.

Additional Duties and Responsibilities:
- Has the desire and ability to work with diverse socio-economic populations who may have significant barriers to overcome in order to complete their desired program.
- Assist students in identifying their academic goals, including high school equivalency attainment and entry into postsecondary or certification programs.
- Provides one-on-one, group and monitors a student’s on-line instruction to enable participants to reach their desired goals in the shortest time possible. Instructors will pre-test and post-test at the minimum level of recommended hours of instruction.
- Assist students in overcoming barriers to their educational attainment, including connecting with local or regional social service agencies
- Conducts follow-up with students regarding employment status and post-secondary education and logs all information in InTERS
- Makes appropriate referrals to WorkOne services.
- Contacts referrals provided from WorkOne to assess their needs and schedule them into the program.
- Participates in professional development activities.
- Is proficient in computer software technology, including but not limited to: Adobe, Microsoft Office, Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE), WIN, WorkKeys, Burlington English, Essential Ed. Also demonstrates proficiency with the use of a smart phone.
- Uses exceptional organizational skills, collaborates well with others and works independently.
- Acts as an ambassador, positively promotes programs, and interprets purpose and mission of program for potential students/clients and community members.
- Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Physical Demands:
The work is performed while standing, walking, and sitting. It requires the ability to communicate effectively using speech, vision, and hearing. The work requires the use of hands for grasping and fine manipulations. The work may at times require bending, squatting, climbing, reaching, with the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull light weights.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree required; energy and enthusiasm a must
Desirable Qualifications: Demonstrated proficiency in computer skills; demonstrated successful classroom teaching experiences helpful; experience in working with diverse socioeconomic populations who may have significant barriers to overcome; and the ability to collaborate and network with others. Must have an interest in learning new teaching methods, learning new educational software, and be willing to be flexible and adaptable to changes in state, federal or organizational policies.
