The Day Camp Site Coordinator will oversee the daily operations of the day camp program for teens and adults with disabilities, ensuring a safe, inclusive, and engaging environment. The coordinator will lead and support a team of counselors, staff, and volunteers in implementing recreational activities that promote social, emotional, and physical development. This role requires strong leadership, organization, planning, and communication skills to manage campers and staff effectively while adhering to the mission and values of the organization.

Description

Program Oversight:
  • Coordinate and supervise the day-to-day activities and schedule for teens and adults with disabilities.
  • Ensure all camp activities are executed safely and in accordance with the camp’s mission, policies, and procedures.
  • Responsible for creating a daily curriculum to include life skills activities, recreational activities, and planning community outings/trips.
  • Solve moderate to complex problems regarding the program, campers, or supervision of day camp counselors and volunteers.

Staff Supervision and Support:
  • Supervise and support day camp counselors, volunteers, and other staff, providing guidance, feedback, and ensuring proper training and development.
  • Ensure that all staff are following safety protocols, behavior management strategies, and camp policies.
  • Conduct weekly meetings with staff to address any concerns and ensure smooth operation.

Safety and Well-being:
  • Monitor and ensure the safety and well-being of all campers, staff, and volunteers at all times.
  • Oversee emergency procedures and respond effectively to any incidents or issues that arise.
  • Responsible for record-keeping such as attendance sheets, as well as incident and accident reporting forms, behavior reports, etc.
  • Oversee and manage daily sign in/ out procedures for all campers.
  • Prepare and implement behavior management strategies when necessary, to ensure safe involvement in recreation programs.
  • Required to be in the pool, within arm’s length of participants at the pool for close supervision.

Communication and Collaboration:
  • Serve as the main point of contact for campers’ families, addressing any concerns or questions regarding the program.
  • Foster positive relationships with families, staff, volunteers, and campers to ensure a supportive and inclusive atmosphere.
  • Communicate regularly with the Executive Director to provide updates and report any issues or successes.
  • Prepare and distribute weekly newsletters to parents/ guardians, keeping them informed about upcoming activities, camp events, and important announcements.

Facility and Equipment Management:
  • Oversee the use and maintenance of camp equipment, supplies, and facilities to ensure a safe and organized environment.
  • Coordinate the setup and breakdown of activities, ensuring all areas are properly prepared for the day’s events.
  • Required to drive agency vehicles, including a 14 passenger bus.

Evaluation and Reporting:
  • Regularly assess the effectiveness of camp activities and staff performance, providing feedback and making improvements as needed.
  • Maintain and submit reports on camper progress, daily activities, and any incidents.
  • Create and implement budget for assigned areas.

Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation, Recreation, Special Education, or a related field.
  • 2-3 years experience in a Therapeutic Recreation or Education setting preferred.
  • 2-3 years in a leadership/ managerial role preferred.
  • Current CPR certification or obtain within 6 months of hire.
  • Availability to commit to assigned work times.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively and demonstrate leadership skills.

Immediate Supervisor: Executive Director
Supervisor Duties: Day Camp Counselors and Volunteers
Hours of Work: This position is seasonal, working approximately 32 hours per week in June and July. Work hours are Mon- Thurs from 8:30 AM to 3:30 PM. Additionally, 4 hours of flexible preparation time are included.
