What are the responsibilities and job description for the ADMISSIONS COORD UM PRN position at River Vista Behavioral Health?
River Vista Behavioral Health sits along the bluffs overlooking the San Joaquin River, this brand new, 128-bed facility, will provide high-quality and advanced behavioral health services to residents and visitors in the Central Valley. The new hospital will employ more than 250 people, including clinicians, nurses, mental health technicians, support staff and administration.
We are currently seeking a compassionate and hardworking ADMISSIONS COORDINATOR. The Patient Admission Coordinator is responsible for providing admission support duties during the initial admission process and for clerical support of the UM Director and department. Incumbent maintains an effective paper flow and record-keeping system. This will be a temporary position.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: High School diploma, or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree preferred.
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years experience in a health care facility preferred.
Additional Requirements: Must have knowledge of medical terminology and must be able to type 30 wpm. Must be competent using Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel).

Essential job functions
- Answer office telephones in a courteous manner, prepare messages as appropriate and triage urgent telephone calls to the appropriate clinical staff person.
- Assure that blank admission packets are always available for new admissions, ensuring that all necessary legal and clinical forms are present with blank charts.
- Order patient and staff supplies for the department, obtain approval prior to submitting purchase orders and maintain the established levels of inventory and supplies. Call for service when necessary.
- Prioritize typing requests to ensure an accurate and timely response to each request and ensure completed typing projects are neat, accurate and in proper format.
- Provide photocopy services as requested, utilize photocopy machine in compliance with facility policy, and maintain a file of master copies for those items which require repetitive photocopying.
- Meet admitting patient in hallway, obtain vital signs and discuss admissions paperwork with patient.
- Miscellaneous data entry and file management.
- Assist with call management and referral triage when necessary.
- Work in collaboration with A&R clinicians to obtain written consent from patients upon admission.
- Assist with escorting patients to assigned units upon admission.
- Assist with insurance verification for patients upon admission.
- Triage faxed and e-mailed referral information for A&R clinicians.

- Employ appropriate crisis intervention techniques as trained.
- Demonstrate excellent guest relations in communication, cooperation and in giving assistance to patients, physicians/licensed practitioners, co-workers and visitors in a prompt and courteous manner.
- Maintain confidentiality of facility employees and patient information.
