Overview of Position
The Riverdale YM-YWHA (Riverdale Y) seeks an Early Childhood Center (ECC) Director to become a part of our leading Early Childhood Center. The Director will be in line with the current vision and bring creativity, energy and strong management skills to lead and strengthen our school of approximately 90 children. The ECC Director will also direct Camp Kulanu, our early childhood summer camp as well as participate in community-wide holidays, activities, and events.
We are looking for a hands-on leader to nurture our community of early childhood families and maintain a strong sense of community between students, families, teachers, and the Riverdale Y as a whole. The individual will function as an integral member of the Riverdale Y leadership team. This is a year-round position.
Primary responsibilities include:
- Create and actively promote a nurturing and engaging environment where every child, teacher and family is treated with respect and compassion and that is supportive of and accessible to children.
- Recruit, supervise, and evaluate a team of approximately 15 full-time teachers as well as additional part-time teachers, and oversee classroom management
- Work with teachers to integrate universal values through a Jewish lens, in accordance with the NYC DOE guidelines, into a developmentally appropriate curriculum in a constructivist environment.
- Create a partnership with preschool families and serve as a resource for consultation and guidance regarding parenting, child development and education
- Ensure consistent compliance with NYC Department of Health and Department of Education licensing regulations, including staff qualifications, teacher/child ratios and health and safety requirements.
- Direct Camp Kulanu early childhood camp, ensuring connection with school program, and including supervising assistant director and overseeing camp team of approximately 20 counselors and 100 campers ages 2-5 years old.
- Develop and oversee implementation of budgets for Early Childhood Center and Camp Kulanu in consultation with supervisor and CFO
- Attend Riverdale Y leadership team meetings and actively work with other departments of the Riverdale Y to ensure coordination and overall success of the Y, including participating in agency-wide activities and programs.
- Develop other programs and opportunities based on the needs of families in the committee.
Qualifications:
- Demonstrated track record of mentoring, inspiring, and collaborating with educators
- Passion for establishing sincere, welcoming, and meaningful connections with parents and teachers
- Proven ability to lead professional development efforts and support educators within a teaching and learning environment that promotes lifelong learning
- Ability to multitask the pedagogical, relational, and administrative responsibilities of program direction and coordination
- Ability to support teachers’ understanding and learning about seamlessly integrating Jewish culture and a Jewish lens within an educational context that fits in with NYC DOE policy
- Ability to collaborate with colleagues from different disciplines and of diverse backgrounds and identities
- Knowledge of Jewish holidays, traditions and culture
- 5-10 years of experience in Early Childhood Education incorporating constructivist teaching
- Master’s Degree required
- Must possess a NY State Department of Education Certification Birth-2nd

This is a full-time, in-person role, Monday to Friday, with occasional evenings and Sundays throughout the year.
