Your Role as an Assistant Principal

  • Staff & Operations Support: Assists in supervising staff, daily operations, and ensuring adherence to school policies, VDOE regulations, and accreditation standards.
  • Student Services & Assessment: Supports student assessments, appropriate class placement, treatment planning, and behavioral crisis management.
  • Curriculum & Resources: Provides curriculum guides, ensures availability of materials, supplies, and equipment, and aids in purchasing school resources.
  • Regulatory Compliance & Reporting: Helps maintain compliance with accreditation requirements and reports student progress to relevant stakeholders.
  • Scheduling & Transportation: Assists with staff scheduling, activity planning, and managing school transportation, including safety and maintenance.
  • Quality & Data Monitoring: Collects and analyzes quality indicator data to improve service outcomes and educational effectiveness.
  • Stakeholder & HR Coordination: Builds positive relationships with students and stakeholders while liaising with HR on complex personnel matters.

Required Qualifications:

  • Education- Bachelors or Masters Degree.
  • Experience- Certification by the Virginia Department of Education (VDOE) with endorsement in either special education or adaptive curriculum or Certification in another state.
  • Effective communication and collaboration skills with students, families, and staff.
  • Emotional Intelligence-Active listening and emotional intelligence to support students’ needs. Ability to foster a positive, professional school environment with patience and adaptability.
  • Technical Skills- Basic computer skills (Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook) for documentation and communication.
