The role of the Emergency Department Technician (ED Tech) involves collaborating with the ED Registered Nurse and provider to deliver high-quality patient care. The ED Tech provides direct and indirect care independently and completes additional tasks as delegated and directed by the nurse or provider.
Key Responsibilities:
- Apply and reconnect patients to vital signs monitors
- Answer patient call lights efficiently and respond to patient requests or discuss patient needs with the RN or provider
- Assist patients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs), such as toileting, bathing, dressing, eating, etc., under the direction of the nurse
- Perform glucometer tests after completing competency training
- Monitor and document fluid and nutritional intake and urinary output, including output via a Foley catheter
- Assist with patient transfer or movement, specimen collection, decontamination, restraint application, pelvic exams, spinal immobilization, and two-person urinary catheter insertion
- Conduct visual acuity testing
- Apply and operate the LUCAS device
Performs Delegated Tasks:
- Wound dressings and pressure dressings
- Wound preparation and irrigation
- Oxygen application
- Assist with splinting
- One-to-one observation and documentation of mental health patients
- Airway ventilation and CPR interventions in accordance with BLS guidelines
- Secure the helipad
- Make follow-up appointments as directed
- Remove IV catheters
- Perform EKGs and provide them to the ordering provider or RN upon completion
Unit/Room Maintenance:
- Assist with cleaning and restocking patient rooms
- Help with putting away deliveries from the Materials department
- Assist with cleaning the nursing station at shift change
- Complete monthly duties throughout the department, such as checking expiration dates and deep cleaning patient rooms
- Maintain proper equipment and supplies
- Restock linens for the department
Desk/Clerical Functions:
- Office skills, including organizing, filing, typing, and faxing
- Answer phone calls to the unit and direct calls as necessary
- Send and receive faxes
- Assist patients, families, and providers with phone calls as requested
- Arrange for patient transport, including contacting ambulance or air transport and printing ROI and pushing images or ordering a disc from imaging
- Make copies
- Order and restock office supplies
- Assist with the interpreter iPad as needed
Collaboration:
- Communicate constantly with the provider and RN regarding the plan of care
- Assist in other departments as assigned and help other staff as needed to meet patient care needs
- Seek opportunities to assist in other departments or support other staff to ensure all patients have their needs met

Requirements:
- High School Graduate
- Emergency Medical Technician or Paramedic certification preferred
- Preferred training and experience: one year of current experience with ambulance service, hospital, or Emergency Department experience within the last three years
- BLS certified
Salary : $20 - $27
