What are the responsibilities and job description for the MLT/MT-Laboratory position at Rivers Health?
Rivers Health is seeking a full-time Laboratory Technician to perform the following duties:
- Collect specimens from patients in a manner that supports the quest
relations policy of the hospital.
- Conducts all tests with departmental policy and procedures.
- Observe and note test results, documenting and retesting any
procedures that fall out of acceptable range.
- Ensures adequate supplies are available to complete anticipated
Volume of test during course of assignment in area.
- Follows safety and infection control policies of the laboratory and
all other hospital and departmental policies and procedures.
- Conduct's instrument preventive maintenance as required by
Departmental policies and procedures on all equipment, as directed
by departmental section head.
- Performs and documents all quality control as a routine part of
general testing.
- Performs proficiency testing as designed by section head in assigned
area.
- Demonstrates excellence in customer service skills.
- Fosters an atmosphere of teamwork and collaboration.
- Participates in quality improvement activities including serving
on quality improvement teams.
- Other duties that may be assigned.
- Complies with Corporate Policies, Departmental Policies and
Procedures and Personnel Employee Handbook.
Requirements:
EDUCATION AND FORMAL TRAINING:
Baccalaureate degree in medical technology or related field plus
eligibility for ASCP and/or associate degree in applied science or related field plus eligibility for certification by ASCP and WV License.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
None. Three years or greater of general staff tech experience preferred.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
Must be able to perform vein and/or (capillary) punctures. Must be able to read and understand laboratory instruction manuals. Must demonstrate the ability to identify and address the special needs of the ages of patients including neonates, adolescents, pediatrics, and geriatrics and can effectively communicate with the patient.
