We seek an innovative, collaborative, and highly motivated individual to serve as the Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Accessibility (DEIA) Librarian. The ideal candidate will share the College's commitment to serving a diverse community of learners and promoting an inclusive, equity focused environment. The DEIA Librarian will provide a leadership role for the library's ongoing efforts to develop strategies to build awareness, knowledge, and skills across the organization in diversity, equity, inclusion, accessibility. They will also ensure that the library's services, collections, and resources reflect our commitment to diversity and equity. In addition, successful candidates will have a strong understanding of open educational resources (OER), open licensing, open pedagogy, and the landscape in which these open-enabled domains reside. This position's responsibilities will also include reference services, collection development, library instruction and teaching library courses.
We are looking for candidates who have recent experience working with marginalized/minoritized populations; who understand how historical patterns have shaped minoritized groups' experiences and representation within higher education, including how real or perceived exclusion can shape patterns of participation and outcomes; who are willing to examine and adapt their relational and instructional practices to engage and support various groups of marginalized students; who embrace culturally sustaining teaching practices and anti-racist policies to address equity gaps; and who demonstrate knowledge of the implications of addressing equity gaps in higher education.
Through a lens of equity and inclusion, this position works with the Reference team to provide research assistance and library instruction tailored to the specific needs of both online and face-to-face learners and faculty. The candidate will also serve as a subject area(s) liaison as assigned.
The ideal candidate will share Riverside City College's commitment to educating its racially/ethnically and socioeconomically diverse student population. The college currently enrolls nearly 22,000 students annually, the majority of whom are from racially minoritized populations. 66.7% of RCC's students are Hispanic, 7.2% are African-American, 4.7% are Asian American, 0.2% are Native American, 0.3% are Pacific Islander, 13.8% are White, and 4.1% are multiracial.
