Job Summary and Qualifications

The Chaplain is responsible for providing spiritual care services and support throughout the hospital. The chaplain should ensure the delivery of spiritual care to patients, their loved ones and staff of all faith traditions.

You will actively participate in the delivery of spiritual care, with particular attention to persons experiencing grief and loss.

You will ensure that all requests for spiritual care are responded to in a timely manner; Triage and manage crises in the practice of spiritual care.

You will ensure that ritual and sacramental needs are met, as requested. Assist and provide support for the work of those delivering spiritual care.

You will coordinate 24 / 7 chaplain on-call services.

You will provide orientation and training according to organizational and regulatory standards.

You will ensure availability of and participation in ongoing education and development, with particular attention to the areas of health care, spiritual care and integration.

You will foster a collaborative relationship with community clergy and faith group leaders.

You will coordinate clergy, pastoral visitors, and volunteers from the religious community.

You will orient to policies and procedures that affect their visiting and provide resources including patient lists according to organizational policy.

You will provide liaison with organizational personnel.

You will support an interdisciplinary approach to spiritual care.

You will provide liaison to other departments such as physicians, nurses, therapists, case management, social work, volunteers, etc.

You will provide orientation to spiritual care to other departments as invited.

You will serve on organizational committees (e.g., Ethics) as appointed. Promote an interdisciplinary interfaith approach to spiritual care among all chaplains.

You will develop and maintain procedures to keep records of pastoral activity to communicate with other members of the department and report to department / organization.

You will develop and administer the department's plan for continuous quality improvement.

You will participate in programs and administrative activities of the organization.

You will participate in applicable staff meetings.

You will participate in regular professional development, author or co-author materials relevant to spiritual care / pastoral education and participate in teaching / lecturing on a regular or periodic basis as invited in the field of Pastoral Care and Bioethics.

What qualifications you will need :

Credentialed and endorsed by a recognized faith group. Board Certified through with (e.g., The National Association of Catholic Chaplains, The Association of Professional Chaplains, The Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, the National Association of Jewish Chaplains) Bachelors or Masters of Divinity, four (4) quarters of Clinical Pastoral Education (CPE) through the Association of Clinical Pastoral Education (ACPE) satisfactorily completed or Doctor of Ministry preferred.

Must be a Board-Certified Chaplain through the Association of Professional Chaplains (APC) or become Board Certified within 2 years of employment. Ordination, and endorsement by a Religious

Judicatory, and Board Certified with (e.g., The National Association of Catholic Chaplains, The Association of Professional Chaplains, The Association for Clinical Pastoral Education, the National Association of Jewish Chaplains). Training and experience in Bioethics preferable.

The hospital Chaplain must have at least 2 years of full-time hospital or hospice chaplain experience.

This includes experience in pastoral counseling, weddings, memorials, baptism, and teaching in the field of spiritual care and bioethics.

Riverside Community Hospital is a large acute care facility with 517 beds, established in 1901. It has the most extensive Emergency Room and Level I Trauma Center in the Inland Empire region and is the primary recipient of STEMI (heart attack) cases in Riverside County. The hospital is accredited as a Chest Pain Center and Comprehensive Stroke Center and has a HeartCare Institute that offers both invasive and non-invasive cardiac procedures. Riverside has a Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit, which it is very proud of.
