The Associate General Counsel will be responsible for supporting the healthcare mission of Riverside by serving as one of the primary legal advisers for assigned substantive legal areas, to include managing litigation and collaborating with risk management. This position will work closely and partner with leaders across Riverside on a variety of legal support needs affecting the delivery of healthcare, in addition to providing general legal advice ranging from regulatory and compliance matters, litigation, risk management, labor and employment, contracts, and transactional matters.
Education: Juris Doctor from accredited law school.
Experience: Minimum of two (2) years’ of relevant experience as practicing attorney. Knowledgeable about healthcare law, litigation, contracts, labor and employment, and corporate transactions.
Licensure/Certification: Member in good standing of the Virginia State Bar (or eligibility for admission).

- Provide creative and practical legal advice and decision-making skills in compliance with applicable laws.
- Collaborate with risk management and oversee litigation activities conducted by outside counsel, including developing strategy for complex cases.
- Support human resources related to federal and state employment law, internal investigations, and policies.
- Coordinate and draft responses to administrative regulatory requests, to include the EEOC and Virginia Department of Health.
- Responsible for initiating, reviewing, interpreting, and negotiating various contracts, while focusing on efficiency, accuracy and satisfying deadlines.
- Educate stakeholders on relevant legal issues, including patient care and hospital and provider legal matters.
- Excellent analytical, problem solving, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
- Consistently exhibit a high level of professionalism, attention to detail, sound judgment, and maintain strict confidentiality.
- Highly effective drafting, negotiation, and communication skills (both verbal and written).
- Excellent collaboration skills, as well as the ability to work independently, while managing competing priorities in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment.
