Overview
Works under the supervision of Registered Nurse, Nurse Manager/Director in personal care of the patients and their environment (including those needing special precautions) and performs specified functions in tasks where there is validated competency including: simple wound care (i.e. cleaning of abrasions/laceration), EKGs, peripheral INT removal, basic phlebotomy, and extremity splinting. In addition, this position must be able to demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patient served in assigned unit. The individual must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and provide the care needed as described according to the departmental policy and procedure. Promotes and maintains safe work environment for staff as well as our customers, incorporating national patient safety initiatives.

What You Will Do
- Demonstrates understanding and knowledge of the technology systems necessary for patient data collection into EMR.
- Demonstrates the ability to follow plan of care to include performing treatments and procedures competently/independently under direction of RN. This may include the following procedures dependent upon unit/facility competency requirements vital signs, ice application, compresses, EKGs, drawing blood, specimen collection, etc.
- Accurately completes all required clinical and quality documentation consistently per RHS standards and regulatory requirements.
- Demonstrates accountability for ensuring availability of resources (equipment, instruments, supplies) necessary to ensure positive patient outcomes. Maintains clean, safe and orderly work/patient environment by cleaning work stations/areas, equipment; stocking supplies; placing equipment in proper storage areas.
- Demonstrates the ability to be able to take direction from the charge nurse to help admit, discharge, or transfer patients in a timely and efficient manner.
Education
- High School Diploma or GED, (Preferred)
- 1 year Prior health care experience in hospital setting (Preferred)
- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required)
- Must meet one of the following requirements to start: Certified Nurse Aid (CNA), OR EMT-B the Virginia Department of Health Professions or National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians, OR Certified or Registered Medical Assistant (CMA/RMA), or Medical Assistant Program Graduate, OR Currently enrolled in LPN or RN diploma or degree program with at least 80 hours completed
