Works under the supervision of the Nurse manager and the Director and is responsible for the assessment, planning, implementing, and evaluating the total nursing care of assigned patients. The RN may work in a variety of settings and roles within Riverside Health System. The RN utilizes communication, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision making to create a care plan for each patient based on physiological, psychosocial and cultural diversity. Responsible for supervising and delegating non-professional personnel working directly with him/her to ensure optimum patient care. Must demonstrate competence in dealing with age related needs of specific patient populations served in their assigned unit/dept. Works under the direction of leadership and a multi-disciplinary team to provide a comprehensive range of services or clinical care associated with and in accordance with standards of excellence established by Riverside Health system and facility goals and strategic plans.

What You Will Do
- Provides complete patient assessment, including vital signs, medication reconciliation, and pre-examination procedures. Gathers and assesses objective and subjective data from the patient to include barriers to patient successful self-management. Assesses patient’s medication management to include patient compliance, inventory, and educational needs. Assists the providers in all aspects of the consultation, treatment, procedures, and follow-up care. Executes medical regimens and nursing interventions as appropriate for the setting and their competency. Documents data and assessments in the patient record. Documentation occurs in real time and in proximity to the patient to assure accuracy.
- Demonstrates the ability to develop or participate in the development, implementation, and evaluation of plans of care, treatments, and procedures that contribute to physiological and psychosocial outcomes and stability of the patient. Works to assist patients and families with advance directives as needed. Notifies other departments of psychosocial needs as appropriate to remove barriers where possible that may prevent the patient from following the treatment regime.
- Provides patient/family health counseling and education as needed to include but not limited to medications, procedures, and testing.
- Answers My Chart messages or telephone calls from patients same day. Performs triage. Communicates timely with providers, vendors, and other team members.
- Uses critical thinking skills to delegate and prioritize tasks appropriately in order to facilitate safe, quality patient care and ensure patient care needs are met. Able to recognize and respond to emergency situations. Evaluates practice support needs and identifies resources to meet the needs.
- Actively engages in practice activities to assure patient and team safety.
- Completes patient consults and testing orders, insurance pre-certification, and documentation appropriately to assure proper reimbursement. Documents billing codes at the end of each nursing visit as required. Routes notes to providers for co-signatures as required.
Education
- Registered Nurse (Required)
- Bachelors Degree, Nursing (Preferred)
- 1-3 years Doctor's office setting (Preferred)
- Registered Nurse (RN) - Virginia Department of Health Professions (Required)
- CPR/BLS Certification - American Heart Association/American Red Cross/American Safety and Health Institute (AHA/ARC) (Required)
