Position Summary
We are seeking a Front End Supervisor to manage daily operations at the front end of the store, overseeing cashiers, ensuring a smooth customer experience, and maintaining efficient merchandise flow. This role includes training staff, monitoring performance, addressing customer concerns, and ensuring adherence to store policies. The Supervisor will also assist in other areas as needed and handle physical tasks such as stocking and lifting merchandise. Flexibility, open availability, and the ability to adapt to changing conditions are essential to meet business needs.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
The following are the key responsibilities, but are not limited to:
- Cashier Placement: Assign cashiers to appropriate stations.
- Customer and Cashier Engagement: Continuously engage with customers and cashiers. This includes assisting with bagging, greeting customers as they enter, stepping in as a cashier when necessary, and calling for additional support when needed.
- Work Environment Management: Foster a positive and professional atmosphere, supporting high team morale and avoiding gossip.
- Workflow Management: Oversee the workflow of the front end, manage customer flow, and report any performance or policy issues to the Front End Supervisor or Manager.
- Break Management: Schedule breaks for cashiers based on customer traffic and staffing levels.
- Training and Development: Implement training using checklists and available resources.
- Maintain Standards: Ensure personal and cashier performance aligns with the Red X standards.
- Schedule Monitoring: Monitor the call-out line, document absences, and adjust schedules as needed, including calling cashiers to cover shifts.
- Composure Under Pressure: Maintain professionalism and composure in high-pressure situations.
- Cashier Responsibilities: Be capable of performing all cashier duties.
- Coordination with Other Departments: Collaborate with other departments to allocate senior cashiers or cashiers for merchandising tasks during slower periods.
- Customer Relations: Address customer inquiries and resolve complaints as needed.
- Online Shopping Assistance: Assist with online shopping order deliveries when required.
- Policy Compliance: Ensure adherence to company policies and procedures.
- Performance Evaluation: Monitor and evaluate the performance of Senior Cashiers and Cashiers.
- Feedback and Reporting: Provide feedback to the Front End Supervisor and Manager for performance reviews and corrective actions.
- Professionalism: Maintain strictly professional relationships with coworkers.
- Adaptability: Be able to adapt quickly and effectively throughout your shift as retail demands constantly change. Flexibility is key as tasks and priorities evolve throughout the day.
- Stocking Responsibilities: Take responsibility for stocking items and ensure your team stocks items around the register area.
- Additional Support: Assist the store in various other capacities as needed, including supporting events, stocking, or working in other departments, as trained and required.
- Other Tasks: Perform any other legal and ethical duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Minimum Qualifications (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)
- Reliable Attendance: Consistently demonstrate punctuality and dependability.
- Age Requirement: Must be 18 years or older.
- Computer and POS System Proficiency: Ability to process information and merchandise through the computer and point-of-sale (POS) register systems.
- Communication Skills: Strong ability to communicate effectively with both teammates and customers, demonstrating good interpersonal skills.
- Instructional Understanding: Ability to give and receive complex verbal instructions related to store policies, procedures, and equipment use from supervisors and teammates.
- Documentation Skills: Proficient in reading, counting, and writing to accurately complete all required forms and documentation.
- Store Access: Able to freely access all areas of the store, including the selling floor, stockroom, and register area.
- Merchandise Handling: Ability to move or handle merchandise throughout the store, typically weighing between 0-50 pounds.
- Background and Screening: Able to pass required background checks and drug/alcohol screenings.
- Reading and Writing Proficiency: Must be able to read and write in English, including understanding instructions, merchandise labels, printed materials, and forms.
- Equipment Operation: Ability to operate and use all necessary equipment for store operations.
- Climbing Ladders: Ability to safely climb ladders as needed for stocking and other tasks.
- Reliability and Flexibility: Must demonstrate reliability, flexibility, and honesty in all tasks and responsibilities.
- Judgment Skills: Ability to assess product quality, identify unsellable damage, determine appropriate placement of merchandise, and execute proper case-opening procedures.

- Open Availability: Must have open availability to work flexible hours, including weekends and evenings.
- Overtime and Schedule Adjustment: Willingness to work overtime and adjust schedules as needed to meet store demands.
Experience Needed
- Stable job history with a demonstrated commitment to previous roles.
- Minimum of 2 years of leadership or management experience, preferably in a retail setting.
- Proven ability to manage and motivate a team, ensuring high performance and customer satisfaction.
- Experience in managing day-to-day operations and handling customer-facing responsibilities effectively.
- Ability to adapt to changing retail environments and provide solutions to challenges.
