Summary:
Applicant must possess an associate degree in nursing, required or bachelors of science in nursing, preferred with two years experience in ambulatory care, urgent care, or similar setting preferred. Must have an active unrestricted California license as a Registered Nurse. Must have or willing to obtain current BLS certification which meets the guidelines of the American Heart Association or Red Cross prior to orientation This position encompasses the role of Clinic Charge Nurse. As a member of the health care team, the incumbent serves as a Charge Nurse with supervisory and administrative responsibility for overall management of clinic operations at the assigned site. In addition, the incumbent will serve as a clinical nurse in support of the ambulatory care function of the clinic and provides clinical phone triage. Must be able to work a variable schedule including evenings and weekends to meet the program needs. Must have knowledge of the American Indian Community, and be able to work with and be sensitive to their culture and needs.
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
- Supervise nursing personnel to assure consistent performance in accordance with established scopes of practice and sound nursing practice while adhering to organizational policies and procedures. Demonstrate competent practice of ambulatory, age-specific nursing care; performance of CLIA-waived laboratory procedures; provides patient education activities in accordance with medical provider orders.
- Maintain effective and efficient patient flow through the clinic, with emphasis on reduced waiting time, high quality service, and timely accomplishment of health maintenance activities.
- Provide telephone triage function as needed to assure proper disposition of patients in accordance with established policies and procedures while using clinic resources efficiently.
- Support various clinical operations following local and organizational policies and procedures.
- Communicate and interpret appropriate information to staff and Director in a timely and effective manner, including conducting month staff meetings for all clinic personnel.
- Ensures confidentiality with regard to patient and personnel information and oversees the assurance of patient privacy. RN Charge Nurse Oversee regulatory compliance for the medical clinic, including adherence to IHS, IEHP, VFC, AAAHC, and corporate compliance requirements. Prepare required reports and other measures of clinic performance in an accurate and timely manner. Attend required meetings.
- Maintain and ensure staff proficiency in the use of pertinent medical equipment.
- Perform as liaison between clinic and Outreach personnel to ensure quality and continuity of care.
- Collaborate with Director of Nursing and staff in departmental performance improvement efforts and participate in interdisciplinary organization wide efforts to improve performance and measure quality.
- Refer to CA RN Scope of Practice, RSBCIHI Nursing Manual, and established protocols, policies, and procedures as necessary to comply with organizations standards of practice.
- Allocate resources, manage workload, and supervise clinic activities and nursing staff (Licensed Vocational Nurses and Medical Assistants) to achieve established quality and productivity standards.
- Participate in clinic related health events in local communities served by the organization.
- This position requires working evenings if needed.
- This position requires floating to various clinics within the RSBCIHI system to provide staff coverage, as assigned by the Director of Nursing, or assigned designee.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Education:
High School Graduate or Equivalent. Associate Degree in Nursing (AND) required Bachelors of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred, Active unrestricted California Registered Nurse license. Graduate of a NLN or CCNE accredited School of Nursing.
Experience:
Two years experience in ambulatory care, urgent care, or similar setting preferred.
One-year supervisory experience in an ambulatory clinic preferred.
Certification:
Must have current CPR certification that complies with the guidelines set by the American Heart Association or the American Red Cross. Certification may be obtained prior to orientation.
Skill:
Experience with computerized electronic health records system preferred.
Ability to:
Work a variable schedule to meet the patient and system needs.
Must be able to work with the Indian Community and be sensitive to the Indian culture and its needs.
Physical Demands:
There is frequent exposure to infectious diseases. Frequent walking, bending, and reaching. Standing for long periods of time. Some sitting and lifting required. The incumbent will be required to assist patients who are frail or handicapped. Driving will be required between clinics.
