SUMMARY:

Applicant must have a Ph.D. or a Psy.D. degree in clinical psychology from an American Psychological Association approved educational institution accredited by the State of California. Licensed by the State of California as a Clinical Psychologist. Applicant must have experience in the provision of direct treatment therapy in a clinic setting.  A Registered Psychological Associate applicant must have completed their requirements for their doctorate, and must be eligible for Registration as a Registered Psychological Associate in the state of California. Knowledge of Principles, methods and techniques used in clinical psychology, including testing, assessment and diagnostic processes. Characteristics of emotional and mental behavior disorder. Must posses a valid driver’s license with a safe driving record, DMV record required. Must have or willing to obtain current CPR Certification that meets the guidelines of the American Heart Association or Red Cross prior to orientation. Must be able to work with the Indian Community, and be sensitive to the Indian Culture and its needs.

 

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Duties include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Provides psychometric testing, evaluation, and diagnostic assessment for assigned and/or referred clients.
  • Conducts psychological evaluations through interviews, psychometric testing, and assessments of individual clients referred by medical and/or BHS providers.
  • Prepares complete and professional written summaries of all testing and evaluations.
  • Provides consultation for professional BHS and medical staff regarding clients.
  • Provides testing, evaluation, psychotherapy, counseling, and other behavioral health services (including individual, group, marital and family therapy) at all RSBCIHI clinics as assigned by the Clinical Coordinator.
  • Provides on-going psychotherapy for select clients.
  • Assumes responsibility for a specific caseload of clients assigned by the Clinical Coordinator.
  • Interviews, evaluates, and makes treatment recommendations for assigned clients based on the individual’s medical, psychological, social and chemical dependency/abuse needs.
  • Provides professional consultation.
  • Provides consultation to BHS/CD clinical providers regarding development of appropriate client treatment plans and programs.
  • Provides professional consultation and evaluative input during BHS/CD clinical staffing of client cases.  Assists staff with client assessment, treatment goals, and treatment recommendations.
  • Provides crisis mental health and chemical dependency/ substance abuse intervention.
  • Responds to crisis situations on an “as occurring” basis in the clinical setting.  May be a “face-to-face” or telephone contact.
  • Completes and maintains all client documents in a timely and effective manner.
  • Ensures that all required RSBCIHI documentation and consents are completed prior to beginning the treatment process.
  • Completes all clinical charting in the client’s chart/treatment record in a timely manner.
  • Records client response to treatment and progress in a professional manner in the SOAP format.
  • The “Program list,” “Master Treatment Plan” and “Mental Health History Form” are completed and in the client’s chart in a timely manner.
  • Involves client/family in treatment process, and provides appropriate treatment orientation to the client when functioning as the primary therapist.
  • Provides the client and family members information on treatment concepts, objectives and treatment goals.
  • Develops the initial treatment plan in conjunction with the client, parent, or guardian.
  • Involves the client, parent or guardian with a clear understanding of the confidentiality guidelines.
  • Orients the client and family to the program schedule and RSBCIHI grievance processes when indicated.
  • Encourages clients and their families in the acceptance, understanding, and following of medical treatment recommendations.
  • Responsible for referral of client to appropriate provider or outside service provider.
  • Presents client needs to BHS/CD professional clinical staffing for review and referral.
  • Assists clients or families with necessary financial assistance referrals and eligibility determination.
  • Discusses with client and makes appropriate professional placement and referrals in harmony with current BHS/CD guidelines.
  • When the client is involved with Chemical Dependency behaviors, refers client and/or client’s family to the Chemical Dependency department for service.
  • Assists clients and/or agency and community health care professionals with referral and placement of the client in extended care facilities.
  • Child welfare issues.
  • Reports all suspected cases of child abuse in timely manner and actively follows up with the client and/or family.
  • Presents all reported cases to the Child Protection Team.
  • Is a proactive participant in Child Protection Team meetings, presenting and providing input regarding child welfare issues.
  • Responsiveness to supervision.
  • Actively seeks out supervision, using the supervisory process appropriately based on professional needs.
  • Accepts supervisory guidance constructively, using the direction provided to enhance professional skills or employee performance.
  • Professional and administrative functions.
  • Completes all required reports in a timely and acceptable manner.
  • Demonstrates an ability to work effectively with minimal monitoring – a “self-starter.”
  • Reinforces the philosophy of RSHCIHI in both professional and clinical areas, including conformance to existing policies regarding personal interests, time and dress codes.
  • Proactively develops and promotes a working “team relationship” in the BHS/CD Department and with other agency staff.
  • Provides in-service training for other BHS/CD staff or RSBCIHI department as requested.
  • Is proactive in prompting community knowledge of emotional and mental health problems.
  • Conducts workshops and classes individually and in conjunction with other professional staff members relevant to the Indian communities.
  • Assists with development of revised BHS/CD processes and forms to streamline and enhance client services.
  • Other duties as assigned.
  • Willingly accepts and performs related administrative tasks as additionally assigned.
  • Acceptance of other duties as assigned.

Qualifications


Education:                            

Applicant must have a Ph.D. or a Psy.D. degree in clinical psychology from an American Psychological Association approved educational institution accredited by the State of California. Must be licensed by the State of California as a Clinical Psychologist.

Experience:                         

Experience in the provision of direct treatment therapy in a clinic setting.   If a recovering substance abuser, have maintained a minimum of four years of continued abstinence from mood-altering chemicals.  If a recovering substance abuse family member (i.e., spouse, child), a minimum of four years of continued involvement in a recognized support system.

 

Certification: 

BLS Certification-Must meets the guidelines from the American Heart Association or Red Cross (Can be obtained prior to orientation)  

 

Knowledge of:                      

Principles, methods, and techniques used in clinical psychology, including testing, assessment and diagnostic processes. Characteristics of emotional and mental behavior disorders. How the 12-step support system functions in treatment and recovery.

 

Skill:

Superior skills in working with other professionals such as physicians, nurses, mental health therapists, lawyers, judges, educators, and other related professionals. Clear and effective verbal and written communication skills.

 

License: 

Valid California Driver’s License with a safe driving record, DMV record required. Must be insurable by the program’s insurance carrier.
 

Ability to:                              

Work independently when required yet function as a team member with other agency staff. Work on a flexible schedule, which may include early or late shifts, or work on weekends as determined by the BHS Director. Provide personal transportation. Share professional knowledge with clinical staff and apply this knowledge to a wide range of complex and difficult cases involving children, adolescents, and adults in individual or group counseling services.

Must be able to work with the Indian Community, and be sensitive to the Indian culture and its needs.

 

Physical Demands:               

The work is mostly sedentary. Work may require the routine risks and discomforts of traveling.  Exposure to contagious and infectious disease is a common risk.  Work sometimes involves dealing with people and individuals that are uncooperative and/or hostile.
