Senior Staff Actuary

This role will provide critical support to the Annuity Product Development function of RiverSource. Primary responsibilities of this role include Structured and Payout annuities design and pricing, competitive monitoring, tracking/overseeing weekly profitability, new business and renewal rate setting, and model governance.

Key Responsibilities

• Provide technical analysis and support by using and enhancing a variety of complex actuarial models for structured and payout annuities. Applying business insight and thought leadership in the design of efficient modeling solutions within the model governance framework. Technical expert for area of responsibility. 

• Lead the analysis of innovative solutions for new and existing annuity products in an evolving regulatory and competitive environment.  

• Lead projects and serve as subject matter expert on actuarial and cross-functional projects.

• Support ongoing reporting; communicate results of weekly and monthly pricing, competitive analyses,  as well as renewal and new money rate setting to peers and upper management. 

• Review technical work done by other members of team or business partners.

• Assist with project planning within area and determine resource needs.

• Participate in professional development to maintain actuarial credentials. 

Required Qualifications

• Bachelors degree

• ASA designation and 6 years of actuarial experience

• Strong written and verbal communication skills; ability to communicate well to both technical and non-technical audiences

• Strong analytical, quantitative and problem-solving skills

• Strong technical skill set (Excel, VBA, Python, actuarial modeling software)

• Ability to build collaborative relationships across the organization

• Strong understanding of insurance & annuity liabilities and financial modeling concepts

Preferred Qualifications

• Bachelors degree in Actuarial Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Data Science or related disciplines

• FSA Designation

• Prophet/Prophet Enterprise experience

• Previous experience with structured annuities and payout annuities

The estimated base salary for this role is $128,400 - $173,300 / year variable comp targets. We have a pay-for-performance compensation philosophy. Your initial total compensation may vary based on job-related knowledge, skills, experience, and geographical work location. In addition, most of our roles are eligible for variable pay in the form of bonus, commissions, and/or long-term incentives depending on the role.
