High School Teacher (Agricultural Science Teacher)

 

Location: Riverton High School

Reports to: Riverton High School Principal

Supervises: None

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

 

  • Wyoming PTSB certification (Agricultural Education)
  • Job-related experience
  • Experience with agricultural programs such as FFA and/or 4-H

 

POSITION SUMMARY

The Vocational Agriculture Teacher will be responsible for instructing students in agricultural science courses, overseeing FFA chapter activities, and providing guidance to students pursuing agricultural careers. 

 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Classroom Instruction 

  • Teach a comprehensive curriculum in agricultural education (including hands-on learning experiences). 
  • Prepare teaching plans, demonstration plans, and teaching materials for all classes.
  • Teach the District standards in the assigned area, utilize effective planning for each day’s teaching-learning activities, clarify goals and objectives of lessons and assignments, diagnose and prescribe for student academic and effective strengths and weaknesses, evaluate student progress and achievement, and continually seek to motivate students for the learning tasks at hand.
  • Conduct field trips, both in and out of the district. 
  • Coordinate, maintain inventories, and keep records of the agriculture materials and equipment for classroom and laboratory.
  • Exercise mature and professional judgment in teaching and in associations with staff and students.
  • Maintain adequate and current knowledge of developments within the respective teaching areas and within the areas of instruction and learning.
  • Responsible for the daily safekeeping of students in their charge; must have the ability to safely escort assigned students off school premises or otherwise manage students while in emergency situations. This includes following all appropriate crisis management protocols used by the District.
  • Utilizes instructional materials and other educational resources in a competent and effective manner.
  • Makes use of technology for instructional purposes as well as for record-keeping, administrative, and other non-instructional uses as may be required.  
  • Be familiar with and abide by school district policies and stay current on changes in such policies through procedures described by the Board.
  • Establish and foster a cooperative working relationship with the staff of the building to which the teacher is assigned, as well as with other District personnel.
  • Participate in professional activities as part of the teaching assignment.
  • Demonstrate high standards of professionalism and ethical conduct.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information regarding colleagues, students, and parents.
  • Maintain current PTSB certification in appropriate teaching area(s). 
  • Consistently supports and assists the building staff in maintaining order and discipline among students.
  • Actively participates in Professional Learning Community discussions at grade and subject levels.

 

FFA

  • Perform FFA Advisory Duties - stipends available
  • Assist students in coordinating FFA activities at the local, district, state, and national levels.  
  • Prepare and train FFA and agriculture contest teams and entries.  
  • Assist students in preparing applications for proficiency awards, state and American Degrees, etc.  
  • Assist students in conducting a public relations program for the local FFA chapter and agriculture department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

  • Possesses knowledge to perform the instruction of all assigned content areas, read technical curriculum information, compose a variety of documents, participate in and/or facilitate group discussions
  • Knowledgeable in appropriate codes, policies, regulations and/or laws, age-appropriate activities, lesson plan requirements, stages of child development, and behavioral management strategies
  • Schedules activities, meetings, and/or events

LANGUAGE SKILLS

Ability to read and interpret documents such as policies and regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine correspondence.

EVALUATION

Performance on this job will be evaluated by the Riverton High School Principal or immediate supervisor in accordance with school board policy and administrative regulations on the evaluation of certified or classified personnel.

 

SALARY SCHEDULE

This position will be paid according to the approved Certified Teacher Salary Schedule. 

$49,200 - $76,700

 

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT

Teacher School Calendar, plus a 40 Extra Day contract, unless otherwise assigned by supervisor.

Employment is contingent on a local, state, and federal criminal background clearance.
