What are the responsibilities and job description for the Cytotechnologist position at Riverview Health?

· Respond to inquiries from customers regarding all aspects of laboratory services including but not limited to specimen requirements, turnaround times, and reporting protocols.
· Prioritize and organize cytology specimens to facilitate efficient workflow.
· Stock supplies on a regular basis ensuring all needed materials are available.
· Complete basic laboratory ordering, testing, and reporting operations.
· Recognize problem areas and take appropriate corrective action or notify appropriate leadership personnel.
· Perform daily temperature and function checks for assigned areas. Document all checks appropriately and take appropriate corrective action if any are outside acceptable limits.
· Use personal protective equipment in accordance with hospital and laboratory policies.
· Screen and enter results for gynecologic, non-gynecologic, and fine needle aspiration slides.
· Assist with collection and provide rapid assessments for fine needle aspirations including EBUS procedures, core biopsies with touch preparations, renal biopsies, and preparation of bone marrow biopsies.
· Process various specimen types including, but not limited to, body fluids, pap smears, cell blocks, and FNA specimens.
· Monitor and track daily screening workload.
· Adjust and maintain microscopes.
· Perform QC slide screening and documentation.
· Follow CAP or other regulatory body requirements in the completion of duties and assignments
· Other duties as assigned.
