Job Summary
The Retail Pharmacist is responsible for management of the RVH (Riverview Hospital) Outpatient Pharmacy in the absence of the manager. Responsible for RVH Retail Pharmacy daily operation management, following policies and procedures that assure compliance with Indiana State Board of Pharmacy Law, PBM relations (involves educating and providing excellent service to all members of the RVH PBM plan).
This part-time 24 hours per week position is also benefits eligible!
Job Responsibilities
- The Pharmacist position is a staff role requiring the skill and responsibility to supervise and lead the pharmacy technicians for retail operations. Supervise the daily activities of pharmacy technicians and guides activities.
- Interprets physicians’ orders and compounds and dispenses medications and other pharmaceuticals in accordance with the legal and ethical standards of the profession.
- Provides drug information to other healthcare professionals. Monitors drug therapy to prevent drug interactions or other potential problems.
- Responsibility to retail will include staffing and coordinating schedule with the Manager pharmacist.
- Will fill in for full or partial shifts and shortages as business dictates.
- Responsible for supporting the complete RVH Pharmacy retail pharmacy operations.
- Responsible for supporting all HR PBM Relations. Promotes PBM relations being a resource of education and providing excellence in service.
- Administer vaccines when appropriate.
- May delegate tasks within legally accepted guidelines to pharmacy technicians.
- Complies with all applicable policies and procedures to include departmental and functional policies and procedures.
- Checks appropriateness of medication orders based on patient’s age and clinical status.
- Interprets physicians’ orders and compounds and dispenses medications and other pharmaceuticals in accordance with the legal and ethical standards of the profession.
- Demonstrates accountability and initiative to handle changes in operational clinical volumes and meet required services.
- Assists in procuring, maintaining and storing an adequate inventory of medications. Maintains required state and federal records for controlled substances.
- Coordinates with other medical and healthcare professionals, works collaboratively and promotes a consistent team building approach for the delivery of patient care.
- Responsible to initiate and communicate effectively regarding appropriateness of medication orders and special instructions for administration and or monitoring medications as it relates to patient’s age and or clinical status as needed. Monitors drug interaction.
- Participates with performance improvement activities.
- Keeps current licensure requirements as regulated by the Indiana State Board of Pharmacy.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements
- Minimum: Pharmacy degree from an accredited university, as required by law.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum: Experience in Retail Pharmacy.
- Preferred: Five (5) years or more Retail Pharmacy experience preferred.
License/Certification Requirements
- BLS through the American Heart Association within 6 months of hire date.
- Pharmacist license eligible to practice in the state of Indiana
