Job Summary
The Radiation Therapist is a medical professional specializing in the provision of individualized treatment plans to patients with cancer and tumors. The Radiation Therapist works alongside the oncology team, utilizing medical imaging equipment and delivering radiotherapy treatments to shrink or remove cancer cells in the patient’s body.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide individualized radiation therapy treatments to patients in consultation with the oncology team.
- Explain the process to patients, anticipate and answer any questions.
- Administer radiation therapies per patient treatment plans.
- Ensure treatments are delivered accurately using knowledge of the equipment and radiation therapy protocols and procedure.
- Assess patient reactions to treatments and provide advice and methods of alleviating the side effects of treatments.
- Monitor the progress of patients and suggest amendments to treatment plans when necessary.
- Provide ongoing support to patients and their families.
- Perform quality assurance tests on simulation and treatment machines to ensure they are in working order.
- Other duties as assigned.
Education Requirements
- Minimum: ARRT certification eligibility requires graduation from an educational program accredited by a mechanism acceptable to the ARRT.
Experience Requirements
- Minimum: One (1) year experience in Radiation Therapy
License/Certification Requirements
- Radiation Therapy by the American Registry of the Radiologic Technologist or Board Eligible
- Radiation Therapist licensed in the state of Indiana
- Basic Life Safety (American Heart Association)
