Riverview School is an independent coeducational boarding/day school, providing a caring community and learning environment for adolescents and young adults with complex language, learning and cognitive disabilities.
We are looking for a dynamic, dedicated Residential Staff Supervisor to join our team. This position offers an opportunity to make a positive impact on adolescents’ lives by providing leadership and direct supervision to residential staff while promoting a safe, student-centered atmosphere.
Main Function:
As a Residential Staff Supervisor, you will be responsible for overseeing residential staff, ensuring consistent, fair, and proactive management of dormitories. You will work closely with staff to implement therapeutic routines and individualized approaches for our students, focusing on promoting adolescent normalization, fostering independent living skills, and meeting the individual learning and social needs of our students.
Essential Job Functions:
Supervise and provide ongoing training and mentorship to residential staff, with particular focus on assigned dormitories.
Promote a positive, student-oriented style, emphasizing consistency, fairness, and clear expectations in all interactions with staff and students.
Ensure that residential staff are effectively supporting student safety, meeting needs, managing behavior, and creating a supportive, structured environment.
Emphasize the use of positive reinforcement and proactive strategies for student management, helping staff feel supported and successful.
Act as a reliable, flexible leader, supervising dormitories and assisting other departments as needed.
Maintain timely and confidential communication in all aspects of the role.
Conduct oneself in a professional and civil manner at all times, following the “in loco parentis” philosophy.
Utilize Riverview technology and commonly used programs (Veracross, Google Docs, Word, Excel, etc.) proficiently.
Collaborate with Advisors, Administration, Head Teachers, and other teams in meetings, including I.E.P.s, SPMs, and TPMs, ensuring effective communication, problem-solving, and follow-through on action plans.
Hold regular supervision meetings (at least monthly) with assigned staff and conduct dormitory observations to provide feedback and support.
Candidate Requirements:
A Bachelor’s degree in Human Services or a related field, or 3 years of experience in special education or a residential setting.
Prior experience providing staff supervision, individualized or small-group instruction, and working with adolescents with special education needs.
A proactive, leadership-driven style, with a strong focus on building team dynamics, clear communication, and fostering an environment where staff and students thrive.
A current valid driver’s license with ability to drive students as necessary
Suitable background check: CORI, SORI, DCF and fingerprinting required.
