Position Summary
Administration of prescription and over the counter medication in a safe timely manner within the guidelines set forth by the Regency Retirement Village.
Qualifications
- Must be at least 18 years of age
- Must be a CNA/PCA in good standing with the States Healthcare Registry
- Must have a desire to work with the senior population
- Must pass the Medications Technician Test issued by the state of within 90 days of employment as a Medication Technician, if applicable in your state.
- Must complete Medication Technician training with the Director of Resident Care or designated trainer
- Must complete the Medication Skills Checklist prior to passing medications independently
Primary Responsibilities
- Administration of medication and minor treatments to resident as prescribed by a physician
- Proper documentation of such medication and treatments
- Observation and documentation of response (therapeutic or adverse) to medications and treatments
- Maintaining an organized, clean and secure medication cart and over flow area
- Timely ordering of medications and/or supplies for availability to the residents
- Proper protocol for facility and pharmacy guidelines and policies concerning ordering, returning, and discontinuing medication orders
- Preparation of medications for residents leaving the community for extended periods of time or arranging the delivery of those medications from the pharmacy
- Accurately processing physician orders and transcription of standing orders (only) to the Medication Administration Record
- Accountability for the security of controlled substances and accurate record keeping
- Continued practice and performance of appropriate infection control techniques when preparing/administering medications
- Employment of universal precautions at all times
- Proficiency of performing finger sticks for blood glucose testing for diabetics
- Proficiency in preparation and administration of insulin injections
- Performs personal care duties in response to the needs of all residents
- Performance of emergency responses due to falls, accidents, fire etc. by obtaining vital signs or completing miscellaneous duties as assigned at the time
- Performance of other duties as assigned by the supervisor to assure safe, effective operations of the community
