What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead, Business Operations position at Rivian?
This role will be a key member of the Business Operations team reporting to the Sr. Manager, Strategic Initiatives. The Business Operations team has the once in a career opportunity to scale RV Tech from a brand-new organization to a robust and fully functioning company by leading in the following missions:
- Enable Seamless Org Operations: Own end-to-end new process definition; Identify gaps in existing processes before they break, define solutions, and stand up new processes
- Handle Unexpected Roadblocks: Serve as RV Tech’s primary team to resolve ambiguous and complex challenges that are out of the normal organizational operations
- Manage RV Tech Governing Board & Parent Relations: Drive engagement with the RV Tech Governing board, Rivian, and Volkswagen Group
- Provide Strategic Analysis: Provide the organization with analytical/quantitative capabilities to inform leadership decision-making on operational processes
This role will drive these goals alongside cross-functional partners.
● Identify gaps in existing organizational processes and collaborate cross-functionally with counterparts from Finance, People, IT, Legal, Program Management, and Technical organizations to stand up processes
● Define standard operating procedures that will govern RV Tech financial, people, IT, legal, and cybersecurity approvals and workflows
● Support in definition, implementation, and tracking of KPI’s to measure organizational effectiveness
● Collaborate with Rivian and Volkswagen Group counterparts to coordinate transitionary services
● Support in standing up interfaces and communications between Rivian and Volkswagen Group program management and technical organizations
● Project manage implementation and execution of priority projects
● Perform quantitative and qualitative strategy analysis to inform recommendations to leadership
● Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Engineering, or related quantitative major. MBA preferred but not required
● 6 years of proven experience in a top tier consulting, business operations, or strategy role
● Experience in Automotive, Electrical Hardware, Software Development industries is a plus
● Fluency in German is a plus, but not required
● Proven relationship building and collaboration with cross-functional stakeholders
● Concise verbal and written communication; ability to synthesize information into key points
● Strong analytical and problem-solving and critical thinking skills, with the ability to break down complex business problems into manageable components
● Meticulous attention to detail, strong organizational and time management skills
● Ability to stand or sit for 8-10 hours per day
● Required to communicate using telephone and/or e-mail
● Ability to perform all duties in an office environment that may contain ambient noise and temperature fluctuation
