Role Summary
The Rivian Supply Chain team is looking for highly motivated and exceptional Purchasing professionals to bring Rivian’s engineered products to life. In this role, the Purchasing Manager will be responsible for sourcing and managing all forms of Service purchases - with a primary focus on Engineering and Offsite Testing (secondary focus on Contingent Labor/Contractors and Professional Services - IT, Accounting/Finance, consulting, etc.). As a Purchasing Manager, you will be responsible for all commercial aspects of the awarding of new business, developing strong supplier relationships, and working side by side with our manufacturing and engineering counterparts to push the envelope of our technical requirements and capabilities. You will also take the lead in making sure Rivian can meet its cost targets, suppliers deliver to our aggressive timelines, and services are received at the highest level of quality. In our team, we expect our people to own every aspect of the sourcing process from start to finish and everything in between. This role reports to the Manager, Professional Services, Indirect Procurement within the Indirect Procurement Team of the Supply Chain and Logistics Organization. This role is located onsite in Irvine, CA or Plymouth, MI.

Strategic Sourcing & Contractual Management: Develop category management strategy in line with procurement best practices Lead the strategic sourcing process, from start to finish, for all types of Service needs, in compliance with Rivian purchasing policies
Salary Range for California Based Applicants: $98,500 - $123,000 (actual compensation will be determined based on experience, location, and other factors permitted by law)

Responsibilities
- Primary focus on Engineering and Offsite Testing
- Secondary focus on Contingent Labor/Contractors and Professional Services - IT, Accounting/Finance, consulting, etc.
- Lead contractual negotiations with suppliers on Non-disclosure Agreements, General Terms & Conditions and SOW Agreements
- Identify potential suppliers, analyze capabilities, and develop a sourcing strategy and roadmap for Rivian stakeholders while considering market conditions as well as technology roadmaps
- Perform detailed assessments of supplier proposal/quote submissions
- Lead commercial negotiations with suppliers for all levels of spend with a goal to get the best supplier at the best value for Rivian
- Successfully close complex negotiations including commercial terms, statements of work, and pricing and ensure proper documentation (i.e. contracts, POs, approvals, etc.)
- Manage spend in collaboration with Rivian Finance team
- Supplier & Stakeholder Management & Operational Excellence:
- Actively manage supplier relationships and performance through key performance metrics and regular business reviews with both top suppliers and top internal stakeholders
- Own the responsibility for rate negotiations and collaborate with business stakeholder teams on continuity of supply, risk management, and operation execution to plan
- Effectively balance the needs of business groups to ensure no deadlines get missed
- Collaborate with various stakeholders to present the business case to executive-level leadership for approvals
- Independently manage multiple projects and track status and results, seeking guidance when needed
- Manage assignments with multiple inputs and deliverables, understanding connections between different workstreams
- Develop plans and strategies to improve own area of performance using pattern recognition
- Contribute domain expertise when relevant and understand when to apply it
- Communicate clear, specific performance standards, and report on progress in own area
- Openly discuss issues and actively listen to understand others' perspectives
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain, Engineering, Business, or a related field.
- 5 years of strategic sourcing, procurement, or purchasing experience.
- 5 years’ experience leading RFI/RFP/RFQ processes.
- 5 years managing commercial business relationships with large suppliers.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with proficiency in providing alternative solutions.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills for effective vendor relationships and cross-functional collaboration.
- Excellent negotiation and contract management skills.
- Knowledge of procurement best practices and supply chain management principles.
- Attention to detail and ability to work independently while managing multiple projects simultaneously.
- Comfort in working independently, in teams, and collaboratively across various cross-functional departments in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
- Automotive purchasing experience.
- Experience supporting purchase for Engineering Services (design, development, testing, and manufacturing of vehicles and their components).
- Experience supporting purchase for Offsite testing (safety, component-level, etc.).
- Experience using Coupa is preferred.
- Experience using Ironclad is preferred.
