What are the responsibilities and job description for the Sr. Mechanical Design Engineer position at Rivian?
You think of electronics packaging as a puzzle, fitting space, thermal, rigidity, and cost constraints; innately understanding the engineering tradeoffs that were made to achieve the desired goals. Youunderstand manufacturability, draft angles, and flow rates. You are a critical thinker, an expeditor, and a problem solver. You love working with your hands and tools to get to the root of a problem and resolveit.
- Electronics Packaging Design and Release - You will work on all aspects of electronics packaging design for internally designed components at Rivian.
- You will work with a multidisciplinary team to define packaging space requirements within the vehicle.
- You will design enclosures and mechanical assemblies for Infotainment, Connected Car, and body control systems that meet strict thermal, environmental, and EMC requirements.
- You will be responsible for ensuring designs meet automotive requirements, including drawing GD&T, materials selection, thermal management, vibration, shock tolerance, module takt time, manufacturability, and mechanical acceptance. You will be responsible for releasing components into PLM.
- Production Management - You will work with suppliers to make sure your designs are optimized for high volume manufacturing, while meeting all performance targets.
- You will be reviewing manufacturing drawings and assembly drawings to ensure proper end item builds.
- Mechanical Validation - You will help select mechanical shock and vibration levels for your product accordingly.
- You will perform or coordinate CAE analysis for thermal and vibration durability simulations.
- You will be aiding in the mechanical validation of your product, including fixture design and failure analysis in order to ensure the product meets environmental durability and reliability standards.
- Vehicle Level Integration - You will work with vehicle integration to determine packaging envelopes, and ensure your designs are integrated and properly mounted in the vehicle.
- You will be responsible for the mechanical performance of the module in the vehicle.
