The Accounting Manager will be responsible for developing and implementing systems for collecting, verifying, analyzing, reporting, and controlling financial information; developing internal accounting controls; monitoring financial status; interpreting accounting policy; applying observations and recommendations to operational issues.

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Prepare monthly financial statements 
  • Reconcile bank statements 
  • Record the monthly sales and cost of sales transactions 
  • Review postings to general ledger monthly for proper classification 
  • Prepare and post journal entries 
  • Prepare monthly allocation spreadsheet to allocate costs 
  • Compare Metrc and POS reports monthly to ensure they tie out 
  • Keep copies of all capital improvements.  Complete annual tie out of all additions to capital asset accounts. 
  • Year-end reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts 
  • ACH: 

a.      Set up vendors on bank website 

b.      Pay vendors by ACH 

  • Prepare monthly sales tax return 
  • Prepare quarterly excise tax return 
  • Make quarterly corporate income tax payments 
  • Prepare Personal Property Tax Statements each year for each location as required 
  • 1099s – Prepare all required 1099s at year-end  
  • Attestation – Handle all audit questions 
  • Work on insurance renewals each year 
  • Upload financial statements on a monthly basis to the bank 
  • Handle vendor calls regarding outstanding invoices 
  • Assist with license renewal applications as necessary 
  • Enter invoices 
  • Cut checks 
  • Resolve issues with QuickBooks Technical Support when necessary 
  • Handle all IRS and State of Michigan notices related to corporate income tax, sales tax, excise tax, etc. 
  • Research all tax issues 
  • Notarize documents

 

Technical Accounting Skills Required: 

  • Deep understanding of accounting principles and practices (GAAP, etc.)  
  • Financial reporting and analysis: Ability to prepare and interpret financial statements  
  • Emphasis on year-end corporate tax filings   
  • Balance Sheet/Pro Forma Review – Monthly, quarterly, and year-end 
  • COGS – calculating Cost of Goods Sold for house brands; monthly, quarterly, and year-end 
  • EBITA experience 
  • Depreciation schedules 
  • Auditing and compliance: Knowledge of internal controls and audit processes  
  • Ability to complete all year-end filings  
  • AFS Attestation experience = BONUS 
  • Proficiency in accounting software and ERP systems: Experience with tools like Microsoft Excel and specific ERP systems  
  • Quickbooks: AP inputs, AR inputs, and reporting 
  • Budgeting and forecasting: Skills in financial planning and resource allocation  
  • Forecasting tax payments 
  • Cash Flow Forecast - actively maintaining and knowing cash inflows and outflows. 
  • Manage Accounts Payable Effectively: Negotiate payment terms with suppliers and optimize payment schedules.  

 

Qualifications and Competencies: 

  • Must be 21 years of age or older 
  • Bachelor's Degree in Finance or Accounting. CPA designation preferred. 
  • Must pass any and all background checks required by the state of Michigan. 
  • Knowledge of local and state cannabis laws and regulatory compliance preferred but not required. 
  • 5 years of Retail Accounting experience preferred but not required. 
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
  • Cash handling experience preferred. 
  • Thrive in a fast-paced work environment while working well with others. 
  • Experience with various computer applications including Quickbooks, Microsoft Excel, and Microsoft Word.
