We are seeking an experienced Buyer with a strong background in the Marine and Boat Building industry. The ideal candidate will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and purchasing materials, components, and equipment critical to boat production. You will work closely with suppliers to ensure the timely delivery of high-quality materials while optimizing costs. This position requires a deep understanding of the marine industry, a strong sense of urgency, and the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
Responsibilities:
- Source, evaluate, and negotiate with suppliers to secure cost-effective and high-quality materials.
- Develop and maintain strong relationships with suppliers to ensure on-time delivery and resolve any issues promptly.
- Monitor market trends and industry developments to identify new opportunities for cost savings and process improvements.
- Collaborate with production teams to create and maintain production schedules that meet customer demand while optimizing resource utilization.
- Analyze production requirements, inventory levels, and lead times to make informed decisions and prevent disruptions in the production process.
- Coordinate with cross-functional teams to communicate production plans and address any potential bottlenecks.
- Implement effective inventory control strategies to minimize excess and obsolete inventory while ensuring product availability.
- Conduct regular inventory assessments and reconcile discrepancies to maintain accurate inventory records.
- Optimize inventory levels to support production schedules and minimize carrying costs.
- Work closely with engineering, quality assurance, and other relevant departments to understand product specifications and quality standards.
- Collaborate with the finance team to manage budgetary constraints and ensure cost-effective procurement practices.
- Identify opportunities for process improvements and cost savings in procurement and production planning.
- Implement best practices and key performance indicators (KPIs) to measure and enhance the efficiency of the supply chain.
Accountabilities
- Creates all POs for BOM parts orders, engines and upholstery.
- Creates all POs for Outside services added to BOM items.
- Creates all POs for Off-line shops (metal, wire and lamination)
- Creates all POs for tools, supplies, fasteners and maintenance needs. Creates part numbers for all MRO items.
- Sources Vendors for requested engineering material, solicit bids.
- Discusses defective or unacceptable goods or services with engineering or quality control personnel, production staff, vendors, and others to determine source of trouble and take corrective action.
- MRP Analysis
- Expedites released POs.
- Expedite Material Shortages
- Assist Customer Service /Warranty in acquisition of materials.
- Manages Vendor/Receiving/Accounting discrepancies.
- Carries out warehouse and inventory control policies and procedures.
- Assist in Inventory counting, organization and identification functions.
- Adheres to purchasing policies, processes and procedures.
- Bachelor’s degree in Supply Chain Management, Business, or a related field is preferred.
- Minimum of 3-5 years of purchasing experience within the marine, boat building, or related industry.
- Strong understanding of materials, components, and suppliers specific to the marine and boat building industry, including an understanding of marine regulations and certifications.
- Proven track record of successful negotiations with suppliers to achieve optimal pricing, delivery, and contract terms.
- Familiarity with purchasing and inventory management software (ERP systems) and proficiency in MS Office (Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
- Ability to analyze market trends, supplier performance, and cost data to make informed purchasing decisions.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills to collaborate effectively with suppliers, vendors, and internal teams.

- Will be required to wear appropriate PPE if moving about the production areas.
Work Environment:
While most duties will be in an office environment, the employee may occasionally be exposed to fumes or airborne particles and moving mechanical parts when moving through production areas. Noise level in the production areas is moderate to loud and non-climate controlled.
