Overview
We are seeking a dedicated and skilled Phlebotomist to join our healthcare team. The ideal candidate will be responsible for collecting blood samples from patients, ensuring a safe and comfortable experience while adhering to all laboratory protocols. This role is vital in supporting patient care and clinical laboratory operations, contributing to accurate diagnoses and effective treatment plans.
Responsibilities:
- Collect blood samples from patients or donors in hospitals, clinics, blood banks, or similar facilities for medical testing and transfusion.
- Identify patients using their ID and determine the appropriate venipuncture method based on the patient's age and condition.
- Explain procedures to patients to ensure comfort and alleviate any concerns.
- Use sterilized needles and other equipment to draw blood, ensuring optimal quality and quantity of samples.
- Accurately label and track blood samples to ensure correct identification and maintain detailed records of fluid specimens and tests.
- Prepare and maintain medical instruments, including needles, test tubes, and blood vials.
- Adhere to infection-control and hazardous waste disposal policies and protocols.
- Assist in the recovery of patients with adverse reactions and provide necessary information to patients.
- Maintain a safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
Requirements and Skills:
- Proven experience as a phlebotomist or in a similar role.
- Knowledge of aseptic and sterilization techniques, as well as effective puncture methods.
- Understanding of proper patient identification techniques and legal requirements for handling blood samples.
- Certification with relevant phlebotomy associations (e.g., ASPT, NPA) is a plus.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to connect with diverse patient populations.
- Attention to detail and accuracy in data entry and sample handling.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced environment and handle changing priorities.
- Diploma in Phlebotomy or equivalent on-the-job training.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and initiative in a self-directed role.
- Knowledge of health and safety standards, and adherence to infection-control protocols.
