POSITION SUMMARY

Estimators play a key role in our project planning and execution process. You will be responsible for accurately estimating the costs of earthwork and utility construction projects, ensuring that our bids are competitive while maintaining profitability. Your expertise will be crucial in analyzing project requirements, interpreting blueprints, and collaborating with our project management team to deliver accurate and timely cost estimates. You will also have the opportunity to develop relationships with subcontractors and suppliers, contributing to the overall success of our projects. RL Siteworx is a Houston-based underground wet utility and dirt work contractor who has provided site management services to our customers for over 40 years. RL executes and manages builder’s sites so they can focus on planning for the future. We Make it Flow. OBJECTIVES

- Accurately estimate the costs involved in earthwork and site utilities construction projects. This includes materials, labor, equipment, and other expenses.

- Aim to prepare competitive bids that win contracts while ensuring the company achieves a reasonable profit margin.

- Assess project risks and incorporate contingencies into their estimates to account for unforeseen events that could impact costs.

- Look for opportunities to optimize costs without compromising the quality or integrity of the project through value engineering.

- Collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to ensure that estimates align with project requirements and objectives.

- Strive to improve their estimating processes by incorporating feedback, adopting new technologies, and staying updated with industry trends.

- Consider the needs and expectations of clients when preparing estimates, aiming to deliver value and exceed customer expectations.

- Analyze feedback loop data.

- Track awarded contracts as required - may include estimating/pricing extra work items, change orders, etc.

COMPETENCIES

- Technical Knowledge: Proficiency in construction estimating software, ability to read and interpret blueprints and specifications, knowledge of construction materials and methods.

- Quantitative Skills: Strong mathematical and analytical skills for calculating quantities, costs, and preparing estimates.

- Attention to Detail: Ability to accurately review and analyze project documents, identify potential issues, and provide detailed estimates.

- Problem-Solving Skills: Capacity to identify challenges, develop solutions, and make recommendations to optimize costs and improve project efficiency.

- Communication Skills: Effective communication with project teams, clients, subcontractors, and suppliers to gather information, present estimates, and negotiate contracts.

- Time Management: Ability to prioritize tasks, manage deadlines, and work efficiently to meet project requirements.

- Negotiation Skills: Ability to negotiate with subcontractors and suppliers to obtain competitive pricing and favorable contract terms.

- Cost Control: Understanding of cost control techniques and strategies to monitor and manage project costs throughout the construction process.

- Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a team environment, collaborate with project managers, engineers, and other stakeholders to achieve project goals.

- Ethical Standards: Adherence to ethical standards and practices in preparing estimates, handling confidential information, and conducting business transactions.

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- An undergraduate degree in construction, civil engineering, or similar field of study preferred but not required.

- Must possess a valid/active driver’s license and a functioning vehicle.

- 3 years of experience in estimating earthwork and underground utilities – water, sanitary sewer, and storm on private or public projects.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

- Prolonged periods sitting at a desk and working on a computer.

- This position will require travel around the Houston area - up to 15%.

COMPENSATION

Competitive base salary; $80,000 - $200,000 annually
