PACU Nurse
OVERVIEW: This position collaborates with the physician team and provides nursing care to the RMA LI IVF patient population.
SCOPE: This position reports to the Executive Clinical Director.
I. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

Clinical/Technical
·Assess patient:
· Review patient history and document.
· Evaluate patient knowledge
· Verify patient identification at admission
· Perform routine patient assessment as prescribed by Recovery Room intake sheet and standard operating procedures.
· Implement treatment plan
· Ensure all consents and Boarding Passes are obtained and correct and in RESource
· Ensure procedure consents, medical, anesthesia clearances are in place as needed
· Identify needed maintenance of OR equipment and all supplies needed for recovery room
· Understand Practice purchasing policies, including knowledge of vendors, instruments and supplies, as well as shipping and receiving procedures.
· Process all supply requests from physicians or anesthesiologists in a prompt and efficient manner.
· Collaborate & Plan with other team members to discuss patient treatment plan when needed
· Coordinate the assignments for the weekend per diem nursing staff on a monthly basis or on an as needed basis.

· Assist RN team during series breaks with lab entries
· Check and maintain the emergency box supplies
· Document all patient care services and interactions by charting in patient computer database (Resource) and departmental records when necessary.

· Maintain safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations, and calling for assistance from other clinical personnel when appropriate.
· Protect patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols as established by OSHA guidelines and regulations regarding: sterilization of instruments, medication storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
· Adhere to HIPPA regulations as related to patient care standards.
· Assure quality care by adhering to therapeutic standards; follow physician practice and nursing division philosophies, as well as standards of care set by the state and other governing agency regulations.
· Comfort patients by anticipating patients’ anxieties; answering patients’ questions as appropriate
Team Commitment:
· Maintain patient charting, day sheet for patient visit needs.
· Review and update patient charts – computer/STIM sheets.
· Cover weekends and holidays as assigned.
· Follow coverage schedule as assigned for daily assignments.
· Make referrals to other team members.
· Attend meetings as assigned; communicate issues where appropriate.
· Work independently to assure that practice goals are achieved.

Teach:
1) Provide injection instruction to patients;
2) Provide explanation of treatment options to patients;
3) Provide explanation of the planned treatment cycle to patient,
4) Phone patients with instructions as treatment proceeds
Counsel:
1) Provide anticipatory guidance during treatment cycle;
2) Provide therapeutic emotional support during treatment cycle;
3) Provide patient with pregnancy tests results,
4) Advise and encourage patient upon completion of cycle.

Clinical Skills:
· Physical and phone patient assessments
· Administer subcutaneous and intramuscular injections
· Interpret lab results
· Obtain vital signs when appropriate

III. SCOPE OF FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY
· Cooperate with all practice billing and reimbursement policies, Participate in cost containment by appropriate use of medical supplies.
· Direct patients starting treatment to patient accounts department.
IV. ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
· Recovery Room as necessary.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/PERFORMANCE FACTOR REQUIREMENTS:
· RN BSN preferred
· State RN LPN license without limitations required.
· Minimum 1-year nursing experience in women’s health care in a physician’s practice required. IVF experience preferred.
· High level of listening & counseling skills.
· Aptitude to work independently and demonstrate good judgment.
· Ability to access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.
· Knowledge of office procedure and office machines (i.e. computer, fax, copier, etc.)
· Must be able to work weekends and some holidays; flex to satellite offices as needed
