Position Overview:
The Equipment Operator is responsible for operating and maintaining heavy machinery to support electrical construction projects at Rocky Mountain Electric. This role involves trenching, excavation, and site preparation while ensuring compliance with safety standards and project specifications.
Key Responsibilities:
- Equipment Operation: Safely operate excavators, backhoes, trenchers, skid steers, loaders, and other heavy machinery for underground electrical installations and construction tasks.
- Site Preparation: Perform trenching, grading, and backfilling to prepare job sites for electrical work, ensuring proper conduit placement and site safety.
- Routine Maintenance: Conduct daily inspections, perform basic maintenance, and report mechanical issues to keep equipment in optimal condition.
- Blueprint Interpretation: Read and understand site plans, blueprints, and job specifications to execute tasks accurately.
- Safety Compliance: Follow all OSHA regulations, company safety policies, and industry standards, ensuring proper use of PPE and adherence to best practices.
- Precision Work: Operate machinery with accuracy to prevent damage to underground utilities and existing infrastructure.
- Material Handling: Assist in transporting tools, materials, and equipment to maintain workflow efficiency.
- Problem Solving: Identify and address challenges on-site, collaborating with foremen, electricians, and project managers for effective solutions.
- Documentation: Maintain accurate records of equipment usage, maintenance logs, and project activities for compliance and tracking.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with crew members and supervisors to complete projects efficiently and on schedule.
- Continuous Learning: Stay informed on new equipment, techniques, and industry developments to enhance skills and job performance.
Job Requirements:
- Experience: 2 years operating heavy equipment in a construction, electrical, or utility setting preferred.
- Licenses & Certifications: CDL (preferred but not required), OSHA 10 or 30 (or willingness to obtain).
- Skills:
- Proficiency in operating heavy machinery, including excavation and trenching equipment.
- Ability to read and interpret blueprints and site plans.
- Strong understanding of safety regulations and procedures.
- Effective teamwork and communication skills.
- Physical Requirements:
- Ability to lift 50 lbs, stand for long periods, and work in various weather conditions.
- Willingness to work flexible hours, including occasional weekends or overtime.
