RMS is seeking experienced, compassionate, and dedicated Direct Support Professionals (DSPs). We currently have positions available in the Putnam County area for Homemaker/Personal Care (HPC) services.
This is a part-time position for 2nd and 3rd shifts that works overnight and weekends. This position also includes an every other weekend shift. Pay rate: 16.25 an hour.
What do you get to do as a Direct Support Professional?
DSPs provide direct support to individuals with disabilities in their homes, supporting individuals to thrive and succeed. This role is instrumental in assisting these individuals to reach their goals to become more independent while improving their quality of life.
A day in the life of a direct support professional may include anything from assisting with community activities like concerts, worship, doctor appointments, out to eat, haircuts, sporting events, and grocery shopping, to helping with cleaning and cooking, dining skills, hygiene/personal care, daily living skills, mobility, social skills, or vacation planning.
Position Overview:
Our Direct Support Professionals (Support Associates) for HPC services works exclusively for adults with I/DD living in community-based housings.
Homemaker/Personal Care, often called HPC, supports a person to be more independent while meeting their daily living needs. Homemaker/personal care advances the individual’s independence within his/her home and community and helps the individual meet daily living needs.
Examples of caregiver supports include:
- Self-Advocacy training to assist the expression of personal preferences, asserting rights, and making increasingly responsible choices,
- Self-Direction making decisions and choices affecting the individual’s life,, Daily Living Skills including training in and providing assistance with meal preparation, personal care, self-administration of medication,
- Implementation of recommended therapeutic interventions under the direction of a professional or extension of therapeutic services, which consist of reinforcing physical, occupational, speech, and other therapeutic programs, Behavioral support strategies including training and assistance in appropriate expressions of emotions, assertiveness, or acquisition of socially-appropriate behaviors,
- Medical and health care services such as routine administration of medication or tending to the needs of individuals who are ill or require attention to the medical needs on an ongoing basis
- Emergency response training including development of responses in case of emergencies, prevention planning, and training in the use of equipment or technologies,
- Community access services that explore community services available to all people, and activities needed by the individual to be integrated in and have more access to the community,
- When provided with other components of homemaker/personal care, assist with personal finances.
Responsibilities:
The primary job functions are to ensure the health, safety, and welfare of the persons you serve, while facilitating access to, and involvement in, the individual’s community. As a friend, mentor, and support-person, our DSPs (or Support Associates) will provide supervision, training, and experiences that allow the individuals to develop to their fullest potential in the areas of self-direction, independent living, self-care, self-sufficiency, language, learning, and mobility using the ISP (Individual Service Plan) structure and RMS company policy.
In addition, our DSPs / Support Associates will:
- Work effectively with families, guardians, advocates, Case Managers/SSAs, RMS peers and supervisors, and the community
- Communicate orally and in writing in a clear and timely manner for routine and unusual matters
- Provide or facilitate transportation
- Provide input regarding individual needs/accomplishments
- Maintain individual’s records and other documentation
Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Ability to obtain/retain CPR and First Aid Certification
- Ability to work with persons with disabilities, exercise care and commitment
- Ability to operate in a team environment with clear oral and written communication
- Ability to follow detailed plans accurately
- Ability to apply sound, mature decision making within prescribed limits
- Current valid driver’s license and liability insurance required
